GPS Theft

Another option for your tomtom, do what I do when I use one. Place your tomtom down by the gear lever running on its own battery power. It still recieves sufficient satalites down there, and its out of site with no sucker marks.

That's it! Never again. The inbuilt unit got boosted a second time. This time the passenger side window and door handle busted in the process.

TomTom or Garmin?

Sorry to hear that, I know how it feels having had my car broken into twice in close succession.:(

Car manufactures should install the radios/gps with a deadly voltage system, like a fly killer light, then when the theif touches it, bye bye thief!!

Yeah, and bye bye owner when he/she tries to remove it to fit a hands free kit

Seriously though, it's a very sad that we're at the stage where we have to be without things for fear of having them stolen :finger:

Then they sue you, as by now you should know they have more rights than we do

With the tomtom if you go into the tomtom software off the cd that comes with it you can upload a picture for your starting screen. mine has "Stolen, Reward if found tel 07-------- email [email protected]" obviously the "--" bits have the rest of my number and email address in it. In theory if it was stolen and sold on the scum bag who bought it would be worried and either return it (nad try and cash in) or dump it. On the other hand of a police officer came across someone with it and they couldnt prove it was theirs by the information on screen, then perhaps the coppers would return it to me.

I did find on ebay a tomtom holder that fits to the vent grill, looks like a crap phone holder, but holds the sat nav really well leaving the need to leave the tel tale suction marks on the window. ;)

mr. smstext, pls be warned about that holder that fits into vent grill.

A German magazine called Autobild.de just tested these holders and in case of possible accident these aftermarket holders won't stay attached and could cause severe injuries to people flying inside your car.

Also DVD-players which attach to car seat for rear seat entertainment tend to break loose in case of accidents.

TomTom or Garmin?

TomTom - had both and IMHO the TomTom is better... :)

Finpatch, the screen suction mounts are even bigger projectiles when involved in accidents. I was hit by one when a phesant decided to fly out into my windscreen a couple of years ago.
