Fabia steering angle sensor reset

Featured Replies

Not one I've come across before; so advice/thoughts please on callibrating a new steering angle sensor on a c.2001 Fabia 1.4 with VAG-COM??

Would also like advice on this please! :)

Apparently it's connected with the ASR system.

Please post some more details, start with either a VAG-COM Auto-Scan or at least the "Copy Codes" button on the control modules fault code screen.

Had a chat with a very friendly Skoda Tech, who told me that:

1. Don't need to reset the SAS on non-ESP cars, just cancel the fault code

2. There's a problem with damp connections with these sensors.

It was a devil to get at, the pump unit is encased in foam rubber, which was wet through and that was covered in a light plastic coating, presumably made by Cadburys; crumbled away as soon as you touched it.

Nevertheless, problem fixed, thanks all for scratching your heads anyway

Ditto for me with the plastic around the pump - it had all the rigidity of a Caramac.

Took me four hours to change my angle sensor - but the sense of achievement was well well worth it!

  • 2 weeks later...

Having changed the PAS angle sensor, the warning light has come back on again after two weeks problem free driving. The only symptom is heavier than normal steering at low speeds.

I'm wondering whether a fault code needs to be cleared? But I'm not sure whether or not my 2000 Classic 1.4 MPI is ESP or not. Anyone know?

Another factor is that the car pulls to the left. I'm having the tracking done next weekend. Could this be part of the problem?

Cheers

I wouldn't think so, not on a Classic. Do you have a button on the dash marked ESP?

No, your car won't be ESP. And, yes, it should pull to the left: they all do. There's two schools of thought in this - a. it's a safety feature in case you nod off at the wheel, or b. the steering's particularly sensitive to camber (trying driving on a contraflow and seeing what way it pulls then!)

Thanks for the advice and help. No ESP button on dash. Could the codes just need clearing? (although why would it work just fine for two weeks?)

Re the steering pulling to the left, that's something I was not aware of. But then again I know little about cars really. Do others agree? The other thing that makes me think the tracking is out is that the steering wheel starts to vibrate at 60mph and above

Cheers

Vibration will be due to poor wheel balance. Tracking problems usually manifest themselves as sloppy steering and/or uneven tyre wear
