Anti Roll Bar Bush Size - there are two!

Featured Replies

I need ARB's for my '02 TDI - anyone know the size, it either 21 or 23mm, or something like that!

Thanks all!

I thought the vRS was 19mm so dont know if the diesel would be bigger??

Hi

Give your dealer a call with your reg and they should be able to tell you

Yes the majority of the vRS`s are 19mm so I would have thought that yours would have been the same

Pietch , I Don't know if you have the Octy or the Fabia TDI but just a point to watch out for, Skoda/VAG changed the ARB bush and clamp design in 2002 and the new bushes will have a hump shape in the middle of the outer face of the rubber bush. These are the ones you will likely to be given when you order the bushes and you will therefore also need the new clamps that have a recess for the 'hump' in the bush to locate into. I didn't find this out until I had already taken the ARB off my 02 TDI and so I carefully removed the hump on the bush using a scalpel and then re-used the original bush clamps.

Oh and get yourself a pair of long nosed pliers..you'll need them to compress the clamp/bush down whilst you get the thread started on the clamp retaining bolt This bolt is badly designed and is too short ,it will not even entertain the thought of screwing back in with a new bush unless you compress the clamp. There is very little room to fit a G-clamp and so you will struggle..took me longer to compress the clamp than it did to remove the ARB AND do an oil/filter change.

My 2001 TDi Elegance is the 23mm - I measured the thickness myself using a pair of mole grips & tape measure - best way of making sure you get the right size!!

I second JRs comments about getting the clamp done up - took me for ever, i ended up using the same pair of mole grips to clamp the ARB down so i could get the thread to bite!

Easiest way I find is slip an open ended spanner over the arb.

one of the codes on the label in the car handbook tells you what size arb you have

if you have the code 0AR it's 19mm

0AL is 21mm, and 0AE is 23mm

The only 0xx code I have listed for mine is: 0GE

The only 0xx code I have listed for mine is: 0GE

is it a mk1 or mk2 octy??

Thanks Yes Dear and all.

My TDI 02 should be a 23mm then. Where do I find the codes:

"...if you have the code 0AR it's 19mm

0AL is 21mm, and 0AE is 23mm"

Cheers

If you look inside the front cover of your service book (and under the carpet in the boot if you dont have the service book) there should be a large sticker with a load of 3 letter/number codes at the bottom.

PartCo took my number plate and said my bushes were 21mm (not 23mm like on 'Yes Dears' came model Octy).

I got two patent part bushes, one has a plastic insert the other does not?

Cost was £6.

I also do not have any service numbers under my boot carpet?

Try looking in the service book

The sticker on the inside first page , it should be there too
