Octy VRS MKII Suspension creaking, less than 1000 miles !

Featured Replies

Hi, can anyone in techie-land help me.I have a Octy Vrs MkII that I bought brand new in December last year.

Although it has drifted to the right ( i.e. against camber ) from new I am taking it back to Bickerton Skoda in Sheffield on Monday for a four wheel align.

Other than the constant rattling coming from somehere over my left shoulder ( which I can't track down ) the car has been okay.

I have driven it with kid gloves up till 900 miles, and not gone beyond 4000/45000 rpm.

However having left it sitting for about four or five days over xmas I have now noticed an odd noise coming from the nearside suspension.

It was only rarely heard at first, and I put it down to the car having been sat, hoever it is now almost constant and I am worried.

Basically there is a creak which sounds exactly like the one my MkI octy Vrs made when the Anti Roll Bar bushes were getting knackered, i.e. a short fairly high pitched creak, almost like a popping sound, this occurs when I set off from standstill, accelerate with any effort ( however not "silly" accelerating, it will do it when pulling away in sixth ) and also when braking.

It has got prgressively worse over the last few hundred miles, and now does it when driving over severe dips and crests in the road surface ( I live near Barnsley, so there is a fair amount of subsidence ).

It also now does it when manouvering the steering wheel at low speeds.

The sound appears to be coming from behind the area of my dashboard somewhere roughly where the passenger air vent is, which when I look under the bonnet appear to be the same area as the top suspension mount.

The car has done 970 miles, and I only bought new because I wanted something that I could look after from scratch and would hopefully repay me with reliability.

I have emptied all the glovebox and other cubby holes in the car, so can dismiss them, I have checked under the bonnet, nothing is loose there ( initially thought the bonnet-stay had come unclipped ), and a visual check appears in order, although I am a no expert when it comes to cars.

I am not sure if the car is now drifting more to the right since the creaking started, or if it is my imagination.

The creaking did start around the same time that the car had covered 900 miles, and I started to use some of the performance and accelerate in the lower gears.

Help !! I am taking the car in on Monday, and will explain it to them, but I am anticipating them thinking "It's all in his head", and giving me the car back saying something like "We've had alook and it all seems fine"

Cheers, thread makes interesting reading, at least I know I'm not alone, but not sure if that's necessarily a good thing !
