I'm looking at buying an Ambiente diesel estate, so no armrest. Our current car, a Vectra, has one and it seems I've become really used to using it.

Are there any aftermarket or even Skoda options for retro fitting one, short of buying the entire centre console thing and armrest complete at the cost of a kidney or small child...?

I know this question's been asked to death for the older style Octavia but I couldn't find a definitive answer for the latest style one.

As Tony says it will be time to put a kidney on eBay for the centre box. If you want one then make sure you buy a car with it.

If buying secondhand then look for the Elegance, some good ones around now secondhand. The difference in the s/h market price wise is quiet small and most likely less than adding the armrest to an ambiente, plus you get dual zone and lots of other goodies to.
