So, to my next question. If i was wanting to make my 2.0i fabia unique, would it be at all possible to put a small turbo under the bonnet?

I have asked a couple of other people this and they said not only would i have to buy the turbo but i would have to replace lots of other bits aswell costing around

Simple answer to that one... sell the car and get something else! Trying to fit a turbo to your car would be extremely expensive if even possible.

Do not fear, you are not alone and the 2.0l Fabia is a legend on here. Tuning wise, I wouldn't bother personally and would just put the money towards the car you really want

Handling can be sorted with some Eibach springs and dampers (or Koni FSD's) and the Jabba rear ARB, which will likely make it faster in the real world.

it would definitly be possible to fit a turbo but it would need a lot of parts and fitting to get on there easily costing thousands, its things like manifold, down pipe, injectors, inlet, (probably) a custom mapable ecu, uprated fueling system etc etc so very expensive in teh end.

and i'd say getting your car remapped would be a waste of cash tbh as the gains would be so marginal.

I once looked at putting a turbo on a petrol car (a V-8 5.7 litre camaro engine).

It can be done, but what limits you is the compression ratio - you can run more boost with a lower CR. Typically round 7.5:1 to 8:1. The engine I had was 10.5:1 so no turbo possible (I ended up fitting a nitrous setup which boosted it from 350hp to 500bhp). In fact, I used to have to put a litre of Avgas in with every tank to prevent detonation (had a barrel of the stuff just outside the front door). Lovely blue coloured stuff IIRC.

You can always fit pistons (uprated = forged, preferred) to drop the compression ratio but with all the tuning, strengthening the drivetrain, it would get very expensive very fast.

You want to talk to someone who fits turbos as a routine.

I met a neat old guy in Florida who let me spend a day at his turbocharging workshop - he would turbocharge almost anything, from a tiny car to massive marine diesels..

Perhaps you should liase with Mil, who loves his 2.0 as well, between the two of you, you might be able to suss something out....

Cheers, i havent gone down any tuning route yet cos im a bit unsure bout it all. theres just that many bits and so many manufacturers. I really like my fabia and wanted to do something really unique with it. Sory if i seem a noob chanting "turbo turbo". Does the 2.0l tune up well?

The 2.0 is a good base for a 1.8T conversion, that would cost less than converting the 2.0 n/a to 2.0 turbo.

@Husky - It doesn't tune up that well as it is normally aspirated

As it is a petrol, the 1.8T engine makes most sense I reckon, and it will tune up very well indeed

It might be cheaper (and a lot easier) to sell and buy a 1.8T Ibiza - Jason swapped a 100tdi to a 130tdi and it was no mean feat!!!

Easy to put a turbo under the bonnet, but maybe difficult to plumb it in.

Personally i wouldnt go for a Turbo, what about gettin headers, a better exhausts system, air intake, remap, that would make it around 140-150 i'd say... and wouldnt cost alot too...

Btw, As for the 2.0i chip, the gain wouldnt be that much unless u have a turbo on it, ifs standard with only the intake n exhaust etc the gain would be around 10 BHP, and throttle response will be much better..

I still find it really weird that Skoda has never used the 1.8T engine on the Fabia.. But I've seen a conversion to 1.8t though.. it looked jus awesome to see a 1.8T engine under the bonnet of the Fabia, which is what im gonna do with mine one day !!

Well, dont forget that when u get a turbo, u have to get lots of things changed and it may also lead to changin the gearbox or clutch to be able to handlt all that power, you also need much bigger and better wheels n all of this,

air intake wouldnt cost much, it's good for around 10-15 BHP, exhaust wouldnt cost much too, im not sure about the headers though, but its also good for more BHP,

the point i was tryin to make anyways is that if u really wanna put a turbo, then do it good and change everything that will need channgin coz it may cause lots of trubles in the future..

The reason Skoda didnt use the 1.8T on the Fabia would be that it probably would have outperformed the chassis so much as standard that they'd have to do a better job on it Also it would give the Octy a darn hard run for it's money as it would be lighter (although it would probably struggly like mad to put the power down).

Either way - the Fabia vRS is unique in the market by (as one reason) being the fastest version for the vehicle available from the manufacturer (non-chipped, excluding dealer specials).

Dunno if the 1.8t is lighter than the 1.9PD but I'd think it is likely

Regardless of all that, it would be a cool thing to try and do, no clue if the amount of work is similar to the PD100->PD130 conversion but I'm sure with a lot of effort you could do it & it would be pretty darn fast. I'd stick in a quaife or peloquin as well whilst you've got the whole thing to bits though

If you want a 30% increase in power from an engine like the 2.0 lump, you would probably need to go for a pretty significant rebuild. I am guessing that you would need to go for replacing inlet and exhaust manifolds, porting the head, big valves, new camshaft possibly higher compression pistons. Whole lot topped off by bespoke fuelling and ignition maps.

My reckoning is that it would be far cheaper to sell yours and buy a vRS + remap. Alternatively, putting the 1.8t in would be spectacular!

Any idea what the "skoda fabia 2.0 turbo chip" is as he also lists the engine management system being replaced....? Would be interesting to see a full spec of the car and a rolling road graph to see the power delivery

Thanks for all the input guys. Im liking the 1.8T idea, (now where did i put that extra cash and engine...). My major decision is when the time comes do i tune the 2.0L or buy an Audi with more powerfull engine (Audi fetish sorry). If i do tune the fabia i aint doing little silly things, i like to do things properly *Tosses 2.0L engine over shoulder and drools over 1.8T*

I think tuning houses like JBS will do a 1.8T and have quotes for the work on their websites....
