Sorry if I appear rude or abrupt but....I just don't get it, which I recognise might be might lack of insight - after all if someone wants to do something strongly enough, theres nothing to prevent them.

But I think you'd be better with the easier route of change of model if you really want a change!

I don't reckon given all that effort you would notice enough to warrant it, or that others would notice it either from your performance, or anything else.

I am speaking as an ex 1.4Mpi owner, it didn't really do for me (or I was happy with it), stock upgrade to VRS and I'm a pretty happy guy.

Why not go the VRS if you want similar but more of a "torquier feel ?? (I am not sure what performance diff is between the 2.0 and the VRS but no doubt the feel of the torque/Turbo may one noticeable aspect even if the performance may not be comparable, but there are remapping options)

Or go Oct VRS for even more performance (either 1.8T or diesel VRS)

Indeed. One would think that the reliability, cost, insurance and servicing would be far simpler on a car that hadn't been chopped about.

Thanks for all the input guys. Im liking the 1.8T idea, (now where did i put that extra cash and engine...). My major decision is when the time comes do i tune the 2.0L or buy an Audi with more powerfull engine (Audi fetish sorry). If i do tune the fabia i aint doing little silly things, i like to do things properly *Tosses 2.0L engine over shoulder and drools over 1.8T* :)

There's a menu box at the bottom of the conversions page. They've also done a Corrado. Reckon if they can 1.8T a Lupo though, a Fabia's got to be easier.

I am on my second 2.0. I changed after 3 years to a new one with same colour and options - and number plate.

I just checked the 2007 Fabia brochure - no 2.0i and no dark blue! Looks like it will have to be a 1.4 16V or a VRS next time. Drat !

turbo conversions for the 2.0 aren't completely out of the question, it is a tuning option i have been considering for a while now...

for example most of the exhaust manifold/turbochargers from the turbo diesel cars will fit the 2.0 engine as a direct fit, then all you need is an exhaust down pipe from the turbo to the cat... my original thoughts on this was to use a turbo/downpipe from a pd100 fabia, then adjust the vnt mechanism to operate at a lower pressure....

the only problem you are left with is how to feed oil to the turbo, a t piece from the oil pressure switch will solve this!!!

as we all know lower compression ratios are required, and a set of low compression pistons is avaivlable 'off the shelf' for this engine, and even stronger conrods too if required....

a set of fuel injectors with a higher flow rating, the scrap yard is your best friend for these......

The reason Skoda didnt use the 1.8T on the Fabia would be that it probably would have outperformed the chassis so much as standard that they'd have to do a better job on it ;) Also it would give the Octy a darn hard run for it's money as it would be lighter (although it would probably struggly like mad to put the power down).

Either way - the Fabia vRS is unique in the market by (as one reason) being the fastest version for the vehicle available from the manufacturer (non-chipped, excluding dealer specials).

Dunno if the 1.8t is lighter than the 1.9PD but I'd think it is likely :)

Regardless of all that, it would be a cool thing to try and do, no clue if the amount of work is similar to the PD100->PD130 conversion but I'm sure with a lot of effort you could do it & it would be pretty darn fast. I'd stick in a quaife or peloquin as well whilst you've got the whole thing to bits though :D

Oh come on. Are you kidding me here? That's not the reason. If the Fabia chassis can handle a 1.9T elephant block with a remap to 190bhp, it can certainly handle the much lighter 1.8T petrol block with 180bhp on it.

If Skoda stuck that engine in their car, sales on the Golf variations with that engine would plummet at the time. It's pure business.

Edit: Just re-read your post :) Just woke up too.

There is nothing elephantine about a re-mapped 1.9PD - the car positively tears along. It pulls particularly hard 70-120km/h. Torque is the word - feel it, know it, love it. Peace Maaan!

BTW - In a FWD car you want to have some weight on the drive wheels otherwise it's spin city. LSD would be a major improvement, but I want to stay happily married... :rofl:

Could it really be easy peasy? :) I thought that petrol engins operated at higher temperatures than diesel and therefore diesel engines use different turbos that wouldnt cope in a petrol engine??

yes that is true, on average the combustion temperature in a petrol engine is about 800 degrees, this is well within the capabilties of a vnt turbo,

and because the manifold is a direct bolt-on fit, the hardest bit has allready been done for you

Here you go guys, I emailed JBS and this is what they said:

"Unfortunately we cannot turbo charge the 2.0 N/A

We can carry out the 1.8T conversions which will last as long as any other

1.8T car that comes out of the factory

The 1.8T conversions start at £8000+VAT as the basic price, this includes

everything that will be needed for the 1.8T conversion - this will have a

late low mileage engine with DBW and VVT with original wiring loom, ECU and

clocks.

Included in that price is a custom developed FMIC, custom downpipe and

exhaust system, we also include suspension set up to take the weight

difference."

Oh well my missionis at an end, i thinks i will just head for an audi when the furbys time is up, unless skoda can commit to puttin some beef into thier smaller cars and apply that to the road eg 4wd! (No offense to Vrs, fantastic car!) Cheers for all the input guys :) :)
