Fabia 1.4 stalling when cold

Featured Replies

Hi all.

My problem is a recent one with my 51 plate Fabia 1.4 Comfort 16v. When I try and start the car in the morning, it will start absolutley fine, but after about 15 seconds, the revs drop, usually enough to stall. If I drive off before it stalls, I often get no power, even with my foot flat to the floor, and the car will kangaroo for a few seconds, when it will then rev properly, and be fine. If the car stalls while at a standstill, when I restart the engine, and give it a good rev, there doesn't seem to be any problem, and the car drives normally.

It also does it when it's been left standing at work all day. If it's just been standing for a short-ish while, it's fine.

Anyone got any ideas?

Its very good that u brought this up.. Im having the same thing with my 1.4 16V too, it started happenin only since the weather started becoming cold, and happens especially if i dont drive the car for like a day or so, when u rev it a bit it all goes away...

Hi sepulchasm and Fabia156, I had exactly the problem you are talking about with my Fabia 1.4mpi, had foot flat to the floor, and no power, but after a short period of time, foot remaining on the floor, the engine behaves itself again.

I think this is a symptom of a poor or damaged temperature sensor, as it only occurs when I leave the car in the cold for a few days, the engine management system wont mix a rich enough fuel because of this. As its such a cheap component, and its the only bloody useful thing in the new Fabia haynes manual, i'm going to attempt to put a new one in soon and see if it improves things.
