Major service on 2.0ltr

Featured Replies

My 2.0ltr is coming up for 28k miles and soon to be 5yrs old, so it needs it's cambelt changing next service. I can get it serviced at a good discount at a friends garage, so will probably stop using main dealer.

It will need 12 month service plus brake fluid change and cambelt replaced. Obviously I would have the belt tensioner changed, but does the 2.0 have a waterpump driven off the cambelt and if so should I have said pump changed as well ?

thanks

Did it have its four year service last year (spark plugs, air filter, pollen filter etc)?

Yes the water pump is cambelt driven and it wouldnt be a bad idea to change it.

I replaced the air filter myself last year but the spark plugs have never been changed.

They should have been done at 4 years. On time and distance service if the car gets to four years old even if it hasnt done 40k it should have a 40k full service.

The cambelt doesn't need changed yet as this engine hasn't got a milage change point on it. Especially as its only 4 yrs and under 40k, my old ibiza 2.0 was 7yrs old before i changed it and again the milage was low but at seven yrs i thought it was time.

Remember this engine is good old fashioned technology from when VW were engineered proberly and drove for ever.

My mates 2.0 passat of the same design type as yours went 275000 before it got changed not a problem.

i would change it, especially at that age, also change the water pump at the same time.

my 2.0 fabia is coming up to 100k and it will be on it's second timing belt change, i plan to do a 'how to' guide on this.... so watch this space!!

2.0 petrol is 60,000 miles or 4 years.
