Featured Replies

i keep getting damp mats in the car and as a result i get condensation on the inside of my screen. i seem to remember something about drain holes getting blocked somewhere but cannot remember where they are and the best way of cleaning them. anyone remember it or am i talking rolex?

Hi Bengie...

Join the club... I think a sieve is more waterproof than my car currently!!!

Bengie, is it the front footwells? I had a similar problem in the nearside front footwell a very small amout off water was sitting on top of the mats, took it to the dealers and they found that the water was coming in though the door handle they replaced it. Problem solved!

I assmue you've checked the pollen filter?

perhaps a quick call to that monkey mechanic you use regularly would be the best way to get it sorted ;)

i ain't checked **** phil as i don't know where things like the pollen filter and these drain holes are.

Pollen filter is under the scuttle panel at the bottom of the windscreen on the passenger side. There was a thread haere recently that showed/explained how it could be accessed without removing the wiper arms.

My Octy VRS estate has a damp problem in the boot (drivers side, near corner when looking in the boot) mould has even started to grow

Will have a good look at the weekend, but can't really see where the water could be coming from.

Rear screen wash hose

Get someone to operate it while you're sat in the boot. Almost guaranteed to be the problem.

Like wot Phil says:thumbup:

And welcome :wavey:

Unless there's a defference between models isn't the rear wiper hose on the passenger side, not the drivers side? Mine certainly seems to be on the passenger side, in the same compartment as the CD changer.

Anyway, I had a similar problem i.e. wet rear corner, albeit on the passenger side. In my case it wasn't the rear washer hose, but looks likely to have been the larger blue drain hose. There's one of these on the driver side too so check that is going into the hole in the floor of the compartment and isn't flapping loose.

That could well be the problem as I always thought the rear washer should squirt rather than pour water out. Is it difficult to get to should this be the problem?

Thanks for the welcome and advice all :)

Your correct it is on the passenger side (small black ribbed hose).

I will have a good look at the weekend, I take it these drain hoses are easy to find?

imcarm - could also be water ingress thru the rear light cluster (feel the seal from the inside) - at least this was happening on my hatch and resulted in water in the same place as yours (assuming I read your directions correctly )

I have included a pic of where the damp patch is appearing.

Will test the rear washer whilst sitting in the boot, check the drainage and rear light cluster. At least this gives me some clues to start with.

I didn't expect a 3 year old car to start leaking though

I didn't expect a 3 year old car to condensate so much!

But then, my Octy is at the dealers as we speak being investigated for condensation problems.

The Roomster I picked up yesterday which has <1000 miles on it had a bit of condensation inside of the drivers window and it was fairly mild at the dealers when I picked it up!!

Maybe Skoda should start a new line of monogrammed water absorbing cloths!

Just had a thought, could the wet patch be down to how the car is parked overnight, I always drive into my space which is on a slope, so any water entering the car is always going to end up running towards the rear end?

Still looking for the cause of dampness in the boot, I have checked everywhere and no sign of where the water is coming from. It's not the rear washer, or coming in through the rear light cluster. I also sat in the boot whilst the car was hosed down with water and not a drop came through, so I'm puzzled as to what could be causing it unless it's just condensation?

Mouse pee? ;)

mine is only in the drivers foot well so thinking either the new windscreen is leaking or a grommet has come loose some where.

  • 3 months later...

Thought my front passenger mat was a bit damp.

Turns out I actually have a swimming pool in there. You can see the fippin water slosh forward when I brake.

Urgent call to dealer in a minute.

How are the seals on the doors?

I mean the ones behind the door cards.

Any hole in these usually results in damp carpets.

I had my passenger door trim off at the w/e to replace the door glass, adn I have no membrane in there - instead I have this 'roadkill' sound deadening tar-backed stuff..... probably helps to explain why my car is not as waterproof as it should be!

Its definately coming in from behind the glovebox. Will find out tomorrow when it goes in.I have pulled the carpets up for now

Can't believe we have apparantly had a months worth of rain over the last few days! Typical:(

Hopefully I wont have to keep bailing loads water out of the footwell every morning with a flipping sponge after Thursday:)
