Central locking problem

Featured Replies

HI lads & lassies,

2003 1.6 Oct.

Have done a search but nothing quite matches this problem.

My drivers door has stopped locking & unlocking itself when the central locking is activated.

The alarm indicator at the door toggle was on constantly but has failed to come on over last day or two and does not flash when alarm is on.

All the other doors work & the interior light works with activating the cen-locking.

The elect window works fine !! and the key will open and close the door (also activating the interior light)

what is there to check to solve this??

thx

Karl.

Hi Karl

I too have this problem!! and have had it for some time now. Does your interior light work when opening the door manually?. Also does your drivers side mirror operate/heat?

I have a very similar problem, but on the passenger door. I've searched and found one possible solution, so when i get a new HU, and bother to fit my comps in the door, i'll look then, as i'll have the door trim off to mount the crossovers and wiring in there anyway...

Oh, i didn't say what it was. oops.

OK, i've searched and didn't see the answer, but someone here found it was a tiny solder that broke on a circuitboard somewhere inside the door. Essesntially, it doesn't RECEIVE the unlock/lock signal because the circuit isn't complete, but the circuit to SEND the unlock/lock signal to the other doors is seperate and works fine. its unfortunate in my case that its the passenger one thats bust, because the missus currently has to wait for me to get in, then let her in from the inside. Had it been the drivers door that had this failure, i'd probably never have known about it, and it would do everything i wanted of it.

No drivers mirror does not heat.

might open up the door trim and see if there is a wire/solder joint out of order,

will report back,

Sounds similar to mine. I am waiting on a new central convenience unit & wiring loom to be fitted. Aparently, this is a common issue with the Mk1 Octavia. Moistur gets at the unit and corrodes the terminals/ connections, so my dealer tells me. Wiring loom is on back order over here, so there must be a demand for the looms.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have these symptoms in a 2003 Octavia:

Started last year when the controls over the wing mirror became confused (Adjusting the right mirror caused the left one to move, Left heater non functional)

Next the problem emerged in the central locking - in operable from the key, or sometimes opening and closing at random.

The red alarm light in the door continuously on.

The windows spontaneously opening when the car is parked unlocked.

The interior light staying on permanently indicating door open.

And the last straw!! Passenger side window opening and closing at random while driving.

I called Skoda dealer and the service receptionist said she had regularly seen the problem. She put me on to the head mechanic. He asked me if the alarm light was on and straight away said that it is caused by corrosion in the wiring loom in the drivers door. A common problem.

Surely this is a DESIGN problem!

A fault code check would be a good start to narrow the search but there are a few common areas to look at.

Thanks M-03 - I'm heading to the dealers tomorrow to narrow it down. But I think the mechanic knows his stuff. The big issue from my point of view is that in this day and age moisture should not get in to the electricals in a car. Been driving for 30 years - never had a problem with wiring/corrosion.

See my earlier post in this thread - Ive been quoted 690 Euros + labour and VAT to replace drivers door wiring loom and window motor. The dealer has agreed the problem is a common one and he will make a 'goodwill' request to Skoda. My position is that this is a design or possibly a manufacturing problem that makes the car unsafe to drive (it will not pass the road test if side mirrors cannot be adjusted and windows cannot be controlled). As a safety design/manufacturing failure the cost of repair should reside with Skoda.

The mirrors can still be adjusted by your hand and as far as I know the windows are not convered by the MOT.

Stuff breaks on cars and things go wrong, its a fact.

Hi Karl,

I hade same prob on my last Oct. Went to Skoda Dealer in Finglas he replaced the window reg and all was well after that . He said all the wiring in the door runs through a block on the reg and thats where the prob was.

My car has not worked properly since the end of November. The passenger window regulator packed up then  .

I got that sorted, and two days later, the central convenience starts playing up, and eventually needed the unit & loom raplaced. I have been waiting on parts (loom) until last Friday when they were fitted. It was good to have my car back working properly when I got it back on Friday, unfortunately the joy only lasted 12 hours.

On Saturday afternoon, the drivers side window regulator packed up

It bugs me that if I was in the UK, all of this would be covered by the 3 year warranty, but as I live in "the rip-off Republic", we only get a two year warranty, which ran out in September. :(
