Rear door lock ....

Featured Replies

Hi all

A few weeks ago I scraped my vRS on the gatepost. Dumb thing to do - booked in into the local paint shop to get the scratches sorted.

Got it back and they did a great job on the paint .... but .... the rear door now doesn't open. The button pops up when opened on the remote, but neither inside or outside handles actually unlock the door.

They took another look at it and say they don't understand it as the handles pull on the rods - they are telling me that the lock "has broken" coincidentally with them removing the handle for the paint job. Like I believe that ...... They also contacted the local stealer who says he's seen it before - they say it needs a new lock mechanism and you need to whack the old one off with a lump hammer  from the inside.

Surely more likely something is out of sync in the mechanism ....

Anyone got any experience of this kind of behaviour (on the part of the lock, not the paint shop ;) ) ??? or any hints .. ?

Cheers

Rick

if you can't open the door from either the inside or outside , you will struggle to get the door trim and inner door panel off to access the lock , i would say it was down to the bodyshop to sort as they have had the handle off to paint the door

get in touch with your insurers and explain the problem , saying that it wasn't like that before the repair etc

Had a similar problem myself.

If you pull out the door handle and look to the rear of it you will see a little red square clip. Think if you push this back in towards the car everything should work again.

funfly - Absolutely spot on !!! Thanks a million for the suggestion - in my case the clip was silver, but this was the issue. All back together now and working perfectly.
