312mm Discs

Featured Replies

My pads need changing on my 4x4 and I was thinking of changing to the 312mm vrs discs. If I'm correct I just need new pads, discs and carriers? Does the guards behind the discs need changing? If so whats best, standard oem discs or aftermarket? And where do the carriers come from? And if I'm doing this does anybody know torque settings for bolts etc? I've done discs, pads etc before but only with a manual, which I don't have for this.

I checked with my insurers and the discs make no difference to premium:)

Hi

IIRC if you go to the dealers and get the vRS caliper carriers they was around £79.00 each + VAT and they are in the Skoda Green

Then just get the discs and the pads are the same for 288`s and 312`s

Sarah

I do have the same interest as you, see here:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/octavia/new-brake-system-my-car-possible/70066/

Until now, I discovered that changing the discs is almost sufficient and necessary.

I received today new materials from DGW and after studying them, I will be back to complete my present answer. Give me one day. Tomorrow I will know more about it.

OK I'll hang on for a while. Would like the torque settings if anyone has them as I'd like to do it properly being brakes!

These are the tightneing torques quoted by Autodata CD2 for the front disc brakes of your 4X4:

Brake disc to hub - 4Nm

Brake caliper to carrier - 28Nm

Brake caliper carrier to hub - 125Nm

PS: The figures are the same for the vRs with its bigger discs.

I have a full set of front 312mm discs, pads, carriers and calipers which have only done about 4K miles.... pm if your interested with an offer.

Thanks Denis

Here we are again !

Having the support of DGW - many thanks! - I am in the position to tell you that, according to ETKA data, between vRS and 4x4 there are minor differences regarding the brake system: front discs and a hexagonal head bolt, all other items seem to be the same. I still have a doubt about the splash guards - what are they actually ?, which I hope I will solve soon (with my mecanic or someone else here)... So, stay close to it for the conclusion !

I'm confused. Are you saying the discs are the same size ? Because they are def not.

No, on the contrary. Front discs and that hexagonal bolt are different ONLY.

Do you happen to know what "splash guards" mean? A link or an explanation?

DORU, splash guards - correct part name splash shield for brake disc - are item 10 on the ETKA diagrams you have.

Sorry but the carriers are different as well. The 288mm ones don't fit the 312mm

If anyone is interested....

I have a mint set of 312mm vRS discs, callipers (in green!), feredo pads and splash guards sat doing nothing in my garage, they have about 4.5k worth of wear on the pads. Basically everything you need for a straight swap!!

Don't need them since I've upgraded to 335mm 2piece discs and AP Racing 6 pots:D

Pm me if anyone is interested.

Cheers all:thumbup:

Thank you very much indeed. :)

Well, you might be right, I'll check again, but as far as I remember, I didn't see any differences in ETKA diagrams I have received... I'll look again more careful.

WELL, I did. You are right : the differences are discs, splash guards and that hexagonal bolt. Finally got to a conclusion

Are you taking this from a diagram. The carriers are different sizes (well on the Bora anyway). I saw Golf Turbo's post on the other thread, but I'm not 100% sure this is correct.

Would this be the same for a 1.9 tdi 130 bp , ie only need to fit the 312 discs , Hex bolt and Splash Guards , if correct do you have the part numbers as well , would like to do this in the 1.9 octy i have . Was previously put off by thinking i had to do the carriers/callipers . Thanks .

Yes, I made a comparisson between 4x4 and RS codes from ETKA. So discs, carriers/splash guards and a Hex bolt is all one need to operate the mods.

I've had a look today at the pads and the inside one with the sensor on is at about 4mm. They can't be much more than 12mm to start with can they? As I've done about 37k on these pads, they should have at least 10k on them, so I'll probably leave them till 40/42k and then do the whole 312mm job. Thanks for info offers and help everyone.

PS shorted the sensor out so light went out;)
