Low front tyre pressures and crusty exhausts

Featured Replies

I'm back from my absence as it's been over a month since I logged into and posted on Briskoda. It's also been over a month since I washed and checked my Octavia vRS but yesterday I gave it a good wash and checked the tyre pressures.

I had suspected that the tyre pressures were a little low as I was getting reduced fuel economy and the car has not been gripping the road as well as normal. What I didn't expect was for the front tyres to be down by 0.3 bar (the rears were down by 0.1 bar). I know I shouldn't have left it so long to check the pressures but I'd like to know when, if ever, the automatic tyre pressure warning would indicate - only if the pressure dropped suddenly?

Also, I've had the car over 9 months now and apart from a couple of minor scratches and stone chips the car is in great condition. The chrome exhausts, however, are not as shiny and bright as when they were new. What products would you recommend to clean and polist the exhausts?

Reset the pressure monitoring system now you have set the tyres. It works by measuring the rotation speed of the wheel. If the speed is different enough between wheel the system assumes a low pressure.

The TPM warns you when there is a difference of pressure greater than 10psi between left and right tires (front or rear).

Thanks. I understood how it worked but I didn't realise it measured the difference between the left and right - the front tyres were both equally low so I guess that's why it didn't trigger.

I use a product called Autosol which I got in Halfords....works a treat
