Getting a key transponder/blade on its own?

Featured Replies

Can I get the blade/transponder unit for my key from elsewhere? The part number is 3U0 837 246. This is so I can hopefully make use of this key I got off Ebay. Would I be looking at more than

You can get the balde on eBay. A guy can cut them from a digital image of your current blade. All for sub £10.

My dad used them no problems at all.

Aha! I've just spotted the roll pin bit on the transponder. I wonder how it works to get the blade out? I tried pushing it in with a pen but it seems stubborn and I thought I was going to bust the nib. :o

The instructions on the eBay add say a pin punch.

those people that make them from a digital photo often get them wrong, i had one done for one of my lupo's and it didn't work

Is this the same key as the octy, as i had a couple of spares, so if you can get the blade i might have a transponder.

:o sometimes I wish I read stuff in full before asking questions....

Someone posted this before, probably less risky (&cheaper?) than ebay - should be able to get all the bits you need. They'll probably answer any queries too. Advanced Keys Shop and quick search for Skoda.

See this thread on SCN - it's long, but worth reading

Quite a lot of the people got their flick key blades done at Timpsons, although it does seem to be a bit hit and miss as to whether your local branch has the right kit.

This has been such a popular topic on there because even the Cupras still don't come with flip keys :D

Steve

I had a blade cut at the weekend for a flip key at timpsons in gateshead metrocentre. Cost me nothing as he said they couldn't guarantee it cos it wasn't their blank so I put a few quid in their charity box. I swapped the transponder into the flip key and it works.

I reckon that I could cut the blade from my original key and shape the end so it would fit the flip key - thereby saving having a dud spare key cos the transponder has been swapped to the flip key.

I removed the blade from the flip key using a slender panel pin. Punch it all the way out cos pliers will crush the pin as it is a rolled strip opf metal rather than a rod.
