Locking Wheel Nuts

Featured Replies

Quick bit of advice please.

I have a set of locking wheel nuts on my car at present, they are made by ?? (a cheapie set) and I have now bought a set of McGuard ones, which are the most secure and only Thatcham rated type on the market.

In addition to fitting these, would I have any problem (wheel balance wise, although I think that any difference in weight so close to the wheel centre shouldn't be a poblem?) in leaving the cheapy ones on as well or is it even worth it for the trouble of having to use 2 different key adaptors and the poor security they probably offer?

Thanks for any thoughts on this one.

John.

Just use one lot of lockers. They are not designed to be torqued as much as regular bolts so you are compromising the safety of the wheel. McGaurds should see you right without having to use the others. If they can get them off, the cheap ones will be meat and drink ;)

Steve

I'm in agreement with Steve's comments - forget the cheap ones. They'll be more hassle than their worth and any well equipped low-life will either have a "key" or know how to get them off.

John, could you please post the code/reference/part number or whatever for the McGuard locking nuts for future reference. :)

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your advice on the locking bolts - have now fitted the McGards(only!).

For reference they are McGard part no. 28018SU (thread is M14x1.5).

They are very nice to fit - the key adaptor locates really easily.

The kit is supplied with akey code card/registration card to register the code against your name and address if you wish. Against supplying the code, a replacement key adaptor is available for 18,00 Euro. List price for these bolts is around

Quick question guys,

Why is this thread in My ICE, surely my maintenance is the way forward with this one?

That's a very good question - I thought that I had started it in maintenance!!

Either it has been moved or I am losing it - probably the latter!

John.

they must be more secure than the Skoda original type!!

I agree with you on that one - I lost my key/adapter and managed to get the "locking" wheel nuts of in no time at all.
