Oil under the hood

Featured Replies

Hi,

My oil lamp started to flash so I checked under the hood and I found alot of oil under it. It was comming from the oilstick hole, the oilstick had been pushed up a few cm. I let the engine rest and filled 2 liter of oil and started it again and it runs perfect.

Anyone have a clue whats going on? I suspect the crankcase breather hose was frozen and blocked so when the pressure increased the oil had to get out somewhere but I'm not sure. :(

That definitely sounds like the crankcase is pressuring for some reason.

Check the breathers first as you surmise. If the problem's not a blockage there, then have a compression test done with a view to checking for siezed or broken piston rings.

Thanks, I'll check the breathers fisrts and then the pistong rings.

Which engine is it? Whatever, get it checked asap or you could be looking at a total engine rebuild like my son did following piston ring failure on a 210bhp 1.8T engine.

Magnus states "75bhp" in his car details, so that's got to be a 1400 or 1600 petrol, doesn't it?
