Vinyl to CD copying

Featured Replies

Want to dub LPs and vinyl singles to CD. Can anyone recommend software which does this? Ideally a simple programme with a long cable to connect headphone mini jack outlet on hi-fi stack to input on PC.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

I have done it before using Magix Audio Cleaning Lab. I had to buy a cheap headphone amp to get the right levels as a normal turntables output is significantly lower than a CD player for example.

HTH.

Got one of those for my dad for Christmas, hardly seem him since as he has been copying his record collection and transferring them to CD. Recomended piece of kit.

Thanks for the suggestions

I've already got a turntable which can be plugged into my hi-fi and an output is available via the headphone socket. Can't I just run an appropriate cable from there into the line input of my pc? Don't really want to buy another turntable if it isn't essential.

I've downloaded a free programme from Audacity which - I'm told - I can use in conjunction with my Roxio Media Creator. Haven't tried it yet but would this give ok results?

What do you get for your

Go for Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 software, will do what you want and lots more beside, @

Magix is only £29.99 from PcWorld and it will cleanup, de-pop and de-click your recording plus allow you to change the sound. If you have a turntable then all you need is some means to connect that to your pc.

Thanks for the suggestions and tips. I'll go and have a look at them all.

Stick to Audacity - fantastic piece of software, and all for free. (open-source too so thats worth another point :) )

I downloaded it for my dad and he's become quite an expert, currently he's converting all his old tapes to CD. They clean up very well, pops, clicks and hisses all gone either with a one-click wizard or manually adjusting levels. You can either convert them to mps (with the use of lame .mp3 codec (again free)) or burn the .wav file and then play them in a regular cd player. Windows Media player can do this.

Any questions and I'll pass them onto the 'expert' - can't believe the day had arrived where he knows more than me

Aside: Magix Audio cleaning labs is awful. IMHO of course :D
