Recommended USB Bluetooth Dongle

Featured Replies

My old Belkin one has given up the ghost, and it wasn't always the most stable of devices anyway...

Any recommendations on a decent, stable product?

Cheers,

Steve

There all much of a muchness really, most important thing is the software stack they come with. Think the Widcomm/Broadcom stack is the best, check the software on the website of the provider, make sure its Widcomm 1.4 or greater.

Tip: For any hardware purchased, check the manufactures website for latest drivers/software before installing the versions supplied on the CD. CD's always seem to be very out of date

I've used a few dongles but the one I've got in work is D-Link DBT-120, good software, small footprint and will work with PC and MAC. Not sure if it is Bluetooth 2.0 compliant but I don't use that functionality anyway.

Yes, most bluetooth adapters are the same. Have the same chipset etc, just a different brand name.

When I used to have mine, I just used the standard XP drivers. If you are using XP SP2 then you dont need any additional drivers. Plug in the USB dongle, pair the device with the dongle and use any software you want.

I found the XP drivers and stack v.poor, don't support many bluetooth profiles(no HID, Bluetooth Audio etc.). Had issues with pairing also.

Depends what applications you need it for but like I said above get an adapter with the Widcomm 1.4 or better stack
