Driving on balding tyres...

Featured Replies

Okay, just come online and seen that this thread has been created and closed.

I feel it is most unfair that Phil would start a thread of this, which does not take much to guess which 'young lady' it is aimed at.

I expect that this thread will be closed relativly quickly, as I am restarting up a finsh debate but for the record I feel I should enlighten people with the true status of my tyres.

The tyres on the back are on the wear indecators, one of the tyres on the front is a hardly used steal wheel, and the other one is a 'okay' tyre. I know this is not an ideal situation, but then I am fairly new to car ownership and I know that I did not fully plan ahead on this. The car is booked in to have 4 new toyo T1s on Friday.

Please can people not think that I am driving my car around on tyres that are illegal or excessivly dangerous with out thought, I am in the process of sorting things out. I park next to Police at work, I think someone would have said something.

My biggest mistake it would seem was asking advice from a man who was going to twist it and post it on a public forum.

I side with you on this one, Im running semi slick tyres on the front, but i simply couldn't afford new tyres untill i get paid tonight, started a new job and had to wait 6 week until my first pay packet.

Its not always out of sheer negligence, its sometimes financial. New tyres fitted tomorrow.

Dont know if you have seen the fifth gear episode where they discussed that the minimum tread depth of 1.6mm (which is on your driving test:rolleyes: ) is not suitable for wet conditions and that this figure should be raised. Made scary viewing.

Should you not be checking your car as your tyres cant of worn this much surely in a short period of time.:nono:

I aint having a go but tyres are something that you sort of need:P

Anyway, Im glad your getting it sorted:thumbup:

What sort of cost you looking at for all them black circly things?

Yes, I did see the 5th gear test. That was one of the things that bothered me.

My tyres are costing £75 a corner. I am sure I could get them cheeper online, but I don't want to have to wait for delivery.

£75 is not bad fitted. I paid that for t1-r tyres, just to be delivered to me. Let me know where you went for them. :D

Dont forget four illegal tyres and that your licence gone and a very hefty fine.

My tyres on one of my old cars were at te wear limiter, and i was panicing about changing them, my dad checked them, and the lowest one had 3mm.

The wear limiters were well above 1.6mm.

So Emily, you may have alot more than you think. Please still get them done though, we dont want anything happening to you or your car

I have been told also the put the wear limiter a bit higher, to make sure you know your tyres need doing.

Chris

Fair point and a good tip - but personally, I like to know how much MORE I have left, above the legal limit

Mine tend to get renewed when I get down to about 2.5mm.

Steve

as far as i'm concerned they aint bald till they are completely flat, then you just sell em on on ebay as slicks

 Might try that one

I've had my fronts on the wear limits before - its surprising how you can wear your tyres from about 3mm left to 1.6mm left in a single days driving (600 miles enthusiastic driving will do that  )

Be thankful you are not driving an Octy (decent tyres cost upwards of £100 per corner  )

If your concerned about your tread depths, then being concerned should be enough to get them changed.

all this fuss and i have to ask, who gives a ****?

I have never known a car forum of such boring do gooders everywhere, maybe skoda drivers really are boring?

Practical and exciting.. ill just have the practical please, im far to up my own **** to bother with the other!

I didnt mean it in a horrible way. Sorry:(

I was something, someone said to me when i started driving and i asked the question about my tyres.:o

Glad to read that it's all getting sorted out. £75 a corner isn't a bad price.

Don't go mad immediately, once you've had them fitted, they'll take a little while to bed in.

as this thread is a reply to the original one mentioned and it is all over and done with, thread closed.
