Tyre sizes - daft question sorry....

Featured Replies

But as I am sitting in my hotel room in Belfast and the octy is on the driveway in Warrington :D I can't remember the tyre sizes for vRS's on 18's.

Anyone shout up for me  I am trying to get a local place here in Warrington where I normally get my tyres from to do some sort of price matching deal for us (useless to southern geezers I know) including fitting and balancing and need to drop my contact an email tonight / tomorrow morning.

225/40 R18 IIRC - but not 100% sure.

225/40/R18

As above, but 235's fit more snugly :)

I though about getting 235/40 18s, they only up the gearing a bit and, as you say, fit more snugly (reduce the gap wheelarch - tyre) BUT decided to stick to 225s as this is the 'official' size and to deviate might produce insurance/warranty problems. Perhaps?

Has anyone got 235/40 18s fitted? What do you think?

Rolling radius is so similar it's negligable, my gps indicates around the same speedo error. Much less tyre roll in corners, and more grip in the dry generally. Sits well too.

235 is a higher profile, yes? Car could do with it to fill the arches a bit (as mentioned) but how does a higher profile tyre equate to less roll in corners?

Is your car standard height? And do you have any profile shots...?

Churs,

Churs,

235 is the section width.

Cheers for the info chaps :)

Thanks for response, Shifty,

So having posted my own silly question, I actually went and looked up tyre sizes (I'm sure 15 years ago I knew this stuff). 235 is the width but the sidewall is expressed as a percentage of that width so... (unless my maths is out) the standard sidewall is 90mm (40% of 225mm) vs 94mm of a 235/40 tyre. Not that much sidewall difference, then...

Exactly :)

Not noticable to the eye anyhow.
