Electronic Engine Management Fault??

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I picked up a 2002 Skoda Fabia 1.4 8v hatchback from an independent dealer two weeks ago. It has approx 56,000 miles on the clock and seemed to be in good condition.

However, the day after I bought it the engine management light came on, so I took it into the local Skoda garage (it is closer than the dealer I bought the car from). They plugged the computer in and said that it was a faulty lambda probe, reset the system and the light went off. The mechanic said that if the light came on again I should bring it in and it would cost 200 quid to repair.

Sure enough 24 hours later the light was back on again.

So I got on the phone to the dealer I bought the car from (it came with a three month warranty) and booked the car in. Their diagnostics came up with a faulty engine heat sensor and replaced it (cost of part 14.75 pounds, though I wasn't charged). The light went off.

I drove home and 80 miles later the light was back on.

So I went back and this time they did replace the front lambda probe, and the light was off.

80 odd miles and 24 hours the light has popped on again. My wife who was driving also says that she stalled on a round about shortly after the light came on and the engine only restarted on the second attempt.

Does anyone have any idea as to what the problem might be?

I can't tell if the dealer's mechanics are doing what they need to do get the problem sorted, and I am no expert on these matters.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Cheers

Daniel

Derek Slack motors have been spot on with my 3 month warranty niggles, as issues that cropped up within the test drive that I reported to them were not sorted, and 3 month later the problem came back. They replaced a gearbox and cambelts FOC, although I paid
