Rear Wiper Streaking - any advice?

Featured Replies

I'm getting bothered that the rear wiper always leaves a fairly large center streak. It seems that the middle of the wiper doesn't press on the glass in the upper part of its swing.

Any advice on a quick fix please?

My front wipers used to make a horrible noise until I used some sandpaper on the rubber edges of the wiper inserts. Tempted to try the same on the rear, but wondered if anyone had the same problem and had a fix..

Cheers

I have the same problem, rear wiper leaves a huge streak in the center of its swipe. grrr.

I havnt done anything to fix it to be honest and the only thing I can think of doing is put on a new wiper. :(

Are you using the blade from a dealer?

On the octy the rear blade looked very slightly curved, and a normal blade gave the same problem as you describe.

You can't get wiper refills from anywhere other than the dealer unfortunately, as they're a unique design. I tried everything I could think of the resurrect the rear wipers on mine and Mrs Ap0gee's Fabias, but gave up in the end - any fixes were only ever temporary. Fortunately, the new blades were only

Give them a good wiping over with vinegar, did the trick for me.

yeah they're the OEM ones, but the summer must have done a number on the rubber.

Will give the vinegar a go - not too bothered about it as there's probably only another week or two of winter light rainshowers....

Thanks

Our Fabia did this, and so did our Octavia. I removed the blade, turned it 180 degrees and re-inserted into the holder ... problem solved!

Thanks Mate!!! SORTED!!!

If you look at the rubber blade it has the actual blade edge angulated about 45 degrees.

When I removed it, the little locking tabs on the two steel inserts were closer to the car end of the wiper arm - the wrong way around from the factory!!

Took it out, re-inserted with the locking tabs at the tip of the wiper and no streaks now!!!:D

The angulated blade was 90 degrees off - now it's perfect.

Cheers Mate for the advice, much appreciated!!
