Stiff Door

Featured Replies

Any ideas on what could cure a stiff door in an Octy? Tried WD40 which had little/no effect. Any other ideas?

A little oil or grease on the runner (or what ever it's called) does the trick! WD40 is only a short term solution anyway.

Check the hang of the door, as if it starts to sag at all the hindges and lock will be harder to operate. This happened in one of my felicia's and I had the dealer alter the drivers door in my 1.6 octy when I bought it to correct the same fault. Me thinks door fitting isn't Skodas strong point.

It's been greased up but unfortunatly doesn't seem to hav emade a great difference. It is easier to open but the passenger door is far easier! Looks like I'll be taking it to the dealer....

Spraying WD40 on to the grease will bugger up the action of the grease. It's how most people shaft hub bearings on push bikes.

Don't worry I cleaned up the area using a damp cloth

Is it the hinges that are the problem or the "damping spring" ?

If it's the spring / rocker mechanism, then it will take some time for WD40 or, better still, a light oil (eg 3 in 1) to penetrate the rocker pivot - may need regular dosings to work.

I left the WD40 on for 2 days but little/no difference. I haven't tried 3 in 1 but I will if grease does nothing.

Colin,

Problem with grease is that it will only lubricate what you put it on, so it will not work it's way into pivots and bearings unless it is forced it. Unfortunately, there is no effective way of using a grease gun on the hinges.

Let's hope the 3 in 1 is sucessful.

Get hold of a can of spray grease. It's ordinary white grease in an aerosol can; the solvent should help it penetrate into the moving parts of the hinges.
