Follow-up to Brembo clearance issue - 2 pics

Featured Replies

Took 2 pics of my current 312mm setup, and how they clear my 17" alloy spokes. I think there's one heck of a lot of room there.

Do you think I will still need spacers? (aimed at those with prior/current Brembo usage)

i've used brembos an a 6n2 polo, and i had to use spacers because the caliper has a huge offset.... dont know about the furby tho!

Yeah, but with these wheels, the way they kind of bend out almost seems to be allowing for some kind of big brake to sit in that area. :) If you see where the Skoda badge sits in relation to the spoke, it shows how "sticky out" (I couldn't think of a better adjective :D) the wheels are. I "might" get away with fitting Brembos without using spacers. Would be a true brucey bonus!

yes, you might get away with that..... the good thing about brembos is that they dont move like a normal caliper does, they are fixed solid and it's only the pistons that move.

Didn't know that - good to be aware of.

if they are four pots, they will have two pistons each side of the disc, and there will be a pipe that feeds the fluid from one side of the caliper to the other

It will be ported through the caliper :)

doubt they will fit J, i'll measure mine today from disc to outer edge of the caliper but they are fecking massive compared to the standard calipers, probably about 4inches wide or so. look at how wide your caliper is on teh side with the piston and they are atleast that wide on either side of the disc :)

Well, before ordering spacers I'll get one caliper bolted on, without actually fitting it properly - just to see the clearance required. :)

its very hard to tell that way J, i tried :D

i had 6mm of spacers on at one point and thought it was fine but once they got dirty and i pushed it round corners they rubbed. bugger i forgot to get that measurement, i will get it today if i remember :o

LOL... NO WAY will they fit behind those rims...

Check on SCN.. theres a diagram somewhere stating what clerance youll need

Eh up. my pictures get everywhere dont they ;)

Then I shall order some spacers a.s.a.p then.

Better "NO WAY!" than "umm, maybe" :D

Saw some 10mm Eibach spacers on a Seat Leon that came for tuning - looked nice.

Isn't there something bad about spacers? wheel bearings IIRC?

Sits back and awaits enlightnment under this here tree........

Yeah - in theory, it will wear out bearings a little faster. But I imagine it's marginal. :)

Its not marginal at all - its quite considerable

Consider the forces at work here.. 950kg on the front wheels - probably more in your case, but the forces at work against the bearings will increase exponentially to the size of the spacer.

Best thing you can do is test fit, and then get the MINIMUM size spacers possible to minimize wear.

Check out This thread on SCN too

Says you need 38mm clearence minimum across the inside of your rims
