Police Octavias

Featured Replies

I was just filling up at a garage in Kent this evening when a pair of Police Octavias pulled up beside me. I got chatting to one of the guys: He said one of them, marked "POLICE DOGS", was a 4x4 1.8T petrol model, remapped to 185bhp; the other was a vRS (no surprise there) remapped to 205bhp.

I remember watching a traffic police programme. They used a Ford Sierra Cosworth, which was pushing 400hp.

Seems like the police like to mod there cars!

The guy I spoke to seemed to prefer the Volvos for straight line speed. He said that Ford and Vauxhall do a "Police chip" for a small fee, whereas Skoda don't so they spend "a fortune" getting them modded.

He also said that the Octavia's ABS comes on a bit too early - apparently on most cars the wheels' rotational speed is about 25% below the road speed when it activates, whereas the Octavia's activates almost as soon as any slippage is detected. I seem to remember (although I can't remember where from) that the optimum braking force is to be had when the wheels are rotating at 40% of the road speed, so I guess the Octavias don't pull up quite as sharply as they could. ...And I thought it was just my driving making the pedal judder...

Ooh, they also had an interesting little gadget for leaving the engine running without the key. A little red button beside the ignition barrel allows the key to be withdrawn without stopping the engine. When you want to drive off, you have to do some combination of pedals/buttons (which, unsurprisingly, he didn't specify!) otherwise the engine will cut out as soon as you pull away. He said this was so that the lights, etc, didn't flatten the battery when they were stopped, without the key having to be left in the ignition.

And also for the turbo to cool down after they've been ragging it. LOL

mmmm... I know the marked octy 4*4 estates in chesterfield are chipped ;)

Wonder why they only remapped the 4x4 to 185BHP ?

It's the same engine as the vRS, & a Jabba remap will take it to approx 210bhp

.

They were most likely just being realistic.

Saw an octy II quick responce ambulance in race blue with all the markings in central london today... must say... it looked the absolute dogs

What could you possibly mean?:rofl: From what I can gather, the chipping varies from force to force and some simply run their cars in "standard" guise (or just aren't told what's been done to it!).

Chris

Just a thought, if some forces are chipping their cars, are they removing them when they sell them or are some people getting unexpectedly quick cars?

Seen the Dog car around. quite a bit.

Will - Did you tell then about Briskoda ? :):D & will we see you at the next meet ?:thumbup:

I would presume there sold on as they are. But that's only me 'presuming.'

Hmm, next time I'm looking for a used car I might have a closer look at the police car auctions. :)

Leicestershire use Octys but theirs aren't remapped.

Yup, workload permitting. I was about to explain that I still Steve owe a drink, then realised that you're Steve!

The Feds in Portsmouth are done up subtly as far as I am aware.

They are unmarked Black and silver Mk1's that are re-mapped to 207bhp they have grooved and drilled discs and run flat tyres = these Octavias are run ragged by the Feds in Portsmouth and I doubt they would run a standard 180bhp on a dyno. There is so many fast food outlets in Portsmouth they are the only people who can really get fast food "Fast!!!"

They also have a Black, blue and silver Mk2 diesel RS's now - they are re-mapped

They are easy to spot - they have a middle spoke in the centre of the rear boot spoiler and the oblong silver led red/blue flashers in rear windows stand out a mile. If you are in front of what you think is the unmarked car step on the brake and see if the occupants have reflective clothes on you break lights.

Oactavia's do come in a 150bhp version which might explain why the 4x4 car mentioned was re-mapped to 185 bhp. I think these 4x4 1.8T's are called the combi in Asia Pacific regions - they have lower speed limits and stricter road laws and less tollerance for minor speeding

i was thinking this too as i cant see them paying to remove it and unchip it.

I was speaking to a member of the local force a whie back about their Mk1 octys, and aksing what mods they had. He said they were stock, so I asked why they seemed to sit low enough for the top of the tyres to disappear into the arches? The answer was 'all the stuff in the boot weighing tha back down', but he didn't have an answer for what stuff they kept under the bonnet too :)

Brother-in-law hates it. He always forgets about it, as it kills the engine as soon as the brakes are applied

It's 2 MK1's in silver and Dark Blue, 05 plates, and 2 MK2's same colours again, iirc 57 plates, just look in the rear window and you can spot the light bar, that or slow down, and they operate in town a lot as well as the motorway, I think the Volvo also dark blue has been retired, and I saw something else the other day unmarked but I can't remember what it was, but it's blue/black or possibly maroon, think it may have been a BMW.

Anyway as long as they catch DD'er's I don't care.

No police octy's or volvo's are gonna catch me. :) lol

Nope, but the helicopter will though ;)

Hmmmm, yeah your right, i would have no reason to run anyway. Iam a good boy :)

This sounds very much like the Clifford intellistart.

I didn't think 2 chicken madras's and plain naan weighed that much?
