Help me spend more money (PC Speakers)

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Well following on from my other two threads I need your help in spending money again, but not as much as that damn screen this time!!

Looking for an upgrade for my PC speakers, atm I have:

jbl_creature.gif

JBL Creatures.

They have served me very well and sound great but I want a bit more punch now ;)

Budget is around

I don't have these but have had a demo of them and they are bloomin' awesome for such a small speaker and within your budget too

Bose Companion2 Multimedia Speakers

I'd consider picking up a pair of normal hi-fi speakers and amplifier.

You can get some very nice stuff dead cheap off ebay and it'll beat dedicated PC speakers.

Oh , and if you decide to sell the JBLs I may be interested.

I'd never thought of that! That's a great idea. :)

Funny you should say that I have just taken photo's of the JBL's to put on eBay.

I have a technics amp and some TDL floorstanding speakers on my home PC and it's a very nice sound. Total cost £40

I have this set up. Which is very good for the money, i use it for my pc and X box (and tv when i wire it in). IIRC they also do these as a 2.1 system as well.

The sub is HUGE, and has a really nice kick to it and eveything is easilly contollable with the desk top station.

Hello all,

I like Dr Z's idea, but for now I want something a little more compact.

I might might order these today:

Logitech Z-5500 THX

They go down to 33hz so not too bad for depth of bass , and they should be better than the JBLs , but "Total Peak power: 1010 watts "

BWahahahaha , thats just ridiculously implausible.

Theres no way those tiny speakers handle 60 watts rms

Exactly the system i have, i like it very much for the money. General pc use is any where in the region of 1-3 bars volume, and the Xbox usually 4bars (there are 20) and i have never found anything quiet enough to warrant any of the 11 boost levels avaliable.

The sub is good, but huge (330x330x380mm) I do occasionally have issues with everything in the room vibrating, especially the keep for the door when approaching 1/2 volume, to be clearly heard anywhere in the house and sometimes outside.

Very good for watching movies, and music, for the money i highly reccomend it to anyone.

You are more than welcome to come and see it in action if you fancy a bit of a detour via Doncaster on your journey north.

i got the old style bose companion 3's wee small main speakers and a sub. new ones look mint and cheap compared to the old ones too!!

Ive a 2.1 Logitech set that look very similar to the ones starch said and have been well happy with them

got rid of the computer and am using them on the TV now

only pain is hiding the sub as its a a bit big

Excellent

I have ordered these puppies after some online reviews and can't wait :D

Ive got the creative gigaworks 750 750watts rms setup mainly for movies and music etc, very very good quality although always have to turn the bass down.

However for gaming, I use a large pair of headphones, very cheap they are the type that go over the ears and block out external noise, VERY VERY good for gaming as they make things far more atmospheric, the only times Ive ever "jumped" when gaming is wearing headphones.

Yeah I'd agree with Ugluk and I have a seat of headphones on my PC so I can be engrossed in the game. Any other application, I'd go for an amp and proper speaker setup over computer speakers! :D

From personal experience...

My Creative 5.1's I use with my PC are great for waking the neighbourhood! Tho I did kinda **** myself the first time I played a Tomb Raider game with the EAX technology - thought someone shot me from behind hehehehe

Harman Kardon are good too - have them on the Mac.

Logitech seem ok, but don't get Advent or Packard Bell ones - I work as a techess at PC World and they're a wee bit pants lol :D

I got a set of z-5500 speakers around christmas time, and i can't fault them, good choice.

(I also got a dell 2407 wfp at the same time! Spooky!)

Have you considered the Bose Companion 3 system?

I have a set of Philips PC400 2.1 speakers plugged into the PC. (ignore the pic below, it's the sub + two satellites)

The sound quality is fantastic. On a par with my Yamaha / Mission set up in the lounge. They were cheap and look good as well. the sub is commendable.
