i'm not sure if I have interpreted what you are saying correctly, but if the light that is on is your engine management light then I would get the car checked out as soon as possible just to be safe, and prevent possible further damage occuring.

I'd agree that this sounds like a possible engine management fault, or it could be a fault with the alternator (certainly I had something similar with mine).

Can you describe the icon on the warning light more clearly? Even knowing whether it's red or orange would reduce the number of possibilities.

I'm afraid that I'd have to agree that this sounds like an engine management issue. The good news is that, with the snapping sound, it may just be a broken piece of intake ductwork, and a confused mass air reading as a result.
