i'm not sure if I have interpreted what you are saying correctly, but if the light that is on is your engine management light then I would get the car checked out as soon as possible just to be safe, and prevent possible further damage occuring.

I'd agree that this sounds like a possible engine management fault, or it could be a fault with the alternator (certainly I had something similar with mine).

Can you describe the icon on the warning light more clearly? Even knowing whether it's red or orange would reduce the number of possibilities.
