Uprated Suspension?

Featured Replies

Hullo

I'm getting to the point in my wreck ripping apart where I'm about to remove the front suspension which still has the eibach pro-kit on it. Rather than just whip these on the new furby I'd really like to get some uprated struts for the pro-kit to go on. It got pretty nasty over bumps having the pro-kit on standard suspension, so I'd really like to "match" it with something tasty, to equilibriate (sp?) everything.

Any ideas on the best solutions? Eibach would seem the obvious choice to go for IMHO, but I could do with knowing what else is out there. (Adrian - possible group buy? :D)

Jas,

no problem on organising a group buy. Would say have a search on what's available for Fabia and PM to me. We can then start a thread going to set what the interest is like.

If KW do variant 2 for Furby @ around

Hello Jason :wavey:

OK, first up, decide what you want from the car. How do you drive and where do you drive. This will give you some sort of pointer as to what to go for.

If the bulk of your driving is on motorways and A roads you will need a different set up to if you rag it along B roads.

Next consideration is budget. Some times cheapest is not the best bet, rather like tyres ;)

So, what options do you have? OK, in no particular order:

Standard dampers, uprated springs

Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Depends if the springs are matched to the dampers. Cheapest option for you as you already have the bits.

Uprated springs and dampers

OK, you've got the springs, now you need some dampers. You actually have 2 sets (1 from each car, so an option is to send them somewhere like Leda and get them rebuilt as adjustable units. All in about

Oh and while you have it in bits, uprate the bushes!

They make a lot of difference. :D

I think the latest Polo stuff will fit. Just trying to get the latest Spax catalogue to download, the RSX stuff is quite good.

I've been rummaging, and it seems my best (cheapest) option is to shove Koni dampers all round, which won't set me back too much, leaving money for possible bush replacement. The eibach kit can then go on these dampers. I'll have to see what happens.

I'd keep the springs you've already got and fit the Koni dampers....

Forget all that coilover suspension... unless you are in to for ever setting height and damping firmness...

etc..

I want a one-hit suspension upgrade, that I don't need to fiddle with, and will not bounce all over the shop and bottom out with a CLUNK! every time I go over some decent undulations!

And the Koni's seem the best choice... I got the part numbers for my car already. :D

As you know Jason, I had Konis and Eibachs on mine.

Good handling, but quite a firm ride unless on the softest setting.

Excessive bounciness was caused by the bumpstops on mine.
