heated wing mirrors???

Featured Replies

how do they work can someone clear this up? i have searched the threads and there is all kinds of ideas of how they work some people say the control dial needs to be in the middle and some people say it needs to be in the middle with the heated rear window on. but my fabia wing mirror control dial has a up position with a picture of a heated mirror on it but in any of these positions nothing seems to happan i cant feel any heat from the mirrors nothing happens at all so how do they work?

Just put the switch in the heater position, the rear window is not needed :D I always found the mirrors were very timid when compared to the others I'd used in Ford's and Vauxhall's but the dealer assured me they were working fine :(

The configuration of the switch varies. On mine, the heater position is in the middle, with 'up' doing the left mirror, and 'down' doing the right mirror. On my wife's car, 'up' does the heated mirror, 'middle' does both mirrors together (cleverer than it might sound!), and 'down' does just the left mirror.

The heater elements are a bit feeble on my wife's car (may need replacing), but on mine they work fine - with the rear screen heater on OR off - and on a chilly day even produce a little column of condensation! Mind you, they never get more than lukewarm to the touch - guess that's all that's needed...?

mine dont seem to do anything i think the heating elements might need changing!

When in the middle position pull the **** back toward you.

It should activate the mirrors on a timer.

I'm pretty sure on mine (07 vrs) just putting them in the middle position puts the heating elements on, regardless of whether the rear window heater is on. Didn't know about pulling the switch back for the timer, is this still a current feature?

Never heard of having to pull the switch, shouldnt be the case.

Engine needs to be running IIRC.

aslong as the Fabia wing mirror heater can melt ice/evaporate standing water on the mirror they are warm enough for me. they do they job they were meant to do very well

Sounds like mine were knackered and the dealer couldn't be ar$ed to help me then :(

In the manual (Pg.66) it does say the Kn0b just has to be in the middle position to be active, but in mine when you pull it back you can hear the relay activate.

The engine does indeed need to be running

Mine does that too, 'L' moves the left mirror while 'R' moves both mirrors. Is this expected behaviour or a fault? I actually find it quite handy when reversing and you can move both mirrors down at once.

The heated mirrors on my TDI are hot enough to fry an egg.:D :D

had a little mess aboutr with mine and i have come to the conclusion they dont work they dont melt ice or evaporate standing water and do not get even the slightest bit warm. i have checked the fuse and thats fine so it is probobly the elements any idea how much these cost and how easy they are to replace???

From having replaced my mirror unit, it would appear that the glass/heater element are not separatable (is that a word?).

If you pop out the glass (on octy you can move the mirror full one way, then fingers in and gently lever out) the wires are connected to the back.

I guess at least you could get a meter on the wires and see if you do get a voltage there before replacing the glass

Yup, my heated mirrors have never worked since I bought it secondhand. Took it to my local dealer who said the whole mirror (both of them) would need replacing at a cost of around £150 including labour. B0110CK5 to that, I say!

I seem to remember reading that the heaters were not on a timer which could lead to them "burning out" if they're left in the heater position. I believe replacing the heating element and glass is relatively cheap and DIYable....

Chris

I hope not, mine have sat in the "middle" position since I bought the car. I've always returned the mirror selector to the centre on all the leccy-mirror cars I've owned, the Corsa's heaters would go on for a few mins, indicated by a little yellow light, then turn off.

Would have been nice for Skoda to do the same rather than make us guess. If enthusiasts on a forum can't decide then there's no hope for any other owners!

The mirror glasses are replaceable without doing the whole assembly. You just wind them all the way out (i.e. pointing away from the car as you're sat in the driver's seat), push your fingers into the gap, and gently but firmly pull. They pop off, but sometimes take the threaded bits that connect to the adjusters with them, so you need to put them back in the correct place. Checking for voltage across the heater wire terminals is a good idea at this point. I got a multimeter from Maplins for

I never knew mine had them until the other morning when i had the engine running and I was outside trying to clear the windscreen and i noticed steam coming from the drivers side mirror.......The mirror know is in the centre and the rear demister was off.
