Rumbling noise on Fab vRS

Featured Replies

I'm getting a rumbling sound that seems to be coming from the front end, almost as if a tyre has a bump on it. Seems to quieten down as speed increases, the noise is consistent if you coast along out of gear so its not engine related.

Anyone had anything similar to this??, the tyres are not bald but they don't have much of a pattern on them - mainly just straight grooves around the circumference.

Could just take it to a tyre dealer and get them to put it on the ramps and check the tyres/bearings.

I've only had the car (55 plate) a week and I didn't notice the noise after a having a decent test drive.

If it helps - my Fabia vRS was low on tyre depth (and on original Michelins) and rumbled quite a bit.

Changed tyres (Hankook Ventus - wanted Toyo Proxes really - but not in stock at mytres.co.uk) and rumble has definitely decreased (they are supposed to be quieter).

I say this but the tyres may not be entirely responsible - if you think of a tyre as a 'whole' you are taiking about 8mm tread and maybe the same in carcase. If you're approaching 2mm depth then you're down to 10mm - from the original 16mm estimate.

All my cars have sounded more rumbly as the tyres have got 'low'.

Actually the rumble is more of a bump!!, it sounds as if its every revolution of the wheel. Car has done 8500 miles so tyres should not be too bad?

Hmmm, sorry - partially misread.

May be a faulty tyre then. in the old days some tyres, if the car was parked up for a long time would develop a 'flat'. However, this is not supposed to occur these days so I would suspect a faulty tyre - have you potholed it ?

Probably the only way to test if one of your tyres is faulty (without incurring expense) is to put on the spare - a pain, I know (I actually bought a spare 'spare' - so I can put an alloy on after a puncture and not have to worry about running at over 50mph, the full alloy will fit in the wheel well without any problems or boot floor 'uplifting' by the way).

IMHO nothing to do with tyres. Wheel balancing or alignment.

After being parked overnight my vRS drives like the front tyres are 50p pieces. Clears after the first hundred yards. So I think the 'flat' phenomenon is still with us...

Gonna take it in to the local tyre dealer and get it checked out tomorrow, hope its nothing serious.

If it is tyres then any recommendations for a reasonably priced half decent tyre?
