Leeboy's VW Corrado

Featured Replies

While the Octy is away, my attention has turned to this winter project. As you can see I am slowly on the way to putting the front of the car back together. Along with replacing bits along the way, the engine has been fitted with new gaskets as well as a lick of paint and very deep clean

Car

Dargon green '93 L plate VW Corrado

Engine

standard 9A 2.0 valver (175K on the clock and not a hint of blue smoke in sight!)

Transmission

Standard 5 speed gearbox.

Suspension

Standsard if somewhat tired now

Brakes

Standard - need a good clean up

Wheels & Tyres

15" FOX rims of some description running Bridgestone rubber

Styling

As intended by VW (other than got some smoked clear and read rear lights for Christmas to be fitted)

Interior

Grey cloth after a good clean

ICE & Security

Alpine head unit at the mo.

Performance

Obviously not much at the mo. But previously was respectable except for a bit of flat spot around the 2500rpm mark. Hoping that some new bits on the fueling and ignition side will cure this when it is back on the road

More pics to be posted when engine bay is complete!

Nice project Lee, any other pictures?

Would love to own a Corrado at some point, been one of those cars i've always wanted.

Had a VR6 a few years back and it was fantastic, absolutely loved it.

If i had more room its the sort of project i'd like to go.

I only have the room for doing motorbikes at the moment, currently project is a RGV250M on a J plate, but i'm going to have to sell it as need the space.

Open to offers over £500 if anyones interested.

No other pictures at the mo. Body work is in reasonable condition. Wheel arches are all sound, though there quite a few dents all over and the rear panel below the tailgate is the major headache as this has rusted through surprisingly from the inside just below the O/S light.

As for VR6, could be tempted to get one of these after I have had some fun with this my first venture into a true VW (even though the body work was put together by Karmann).

I have the complete history for this car, including the original sales receipt. Can you believe that when brand new in 1993, it car cost just slightly more than my Mk I octy vRS in 2002. Ok it has electric sunroof and a light on the passenger sun visor mirror which my Skoda does not, but then again, there is no air con. and as you can see from the pic, the engine (cast iron block) and fuelling system (ditributor, coil and a fairly rudimentary (if not ingenious) fuel metering system) is pretty basic stuff for the year (dating back to Mk II Golfs).

What does that say then? I would suggest that cars these days are exceptional value if you think of the inflation over those 9 years. That, or the Corrado was massively overpriced when new. Anyone know how much a Mk II 2.0 16v golf GTI was in those days?

£15k give or take.

Engine block full back together now and runs (not too long though as I haven't got a cooling system yet. Currently cleaning up the power steering pump before turning attention to the gearbox and everything on the N/S of the engine bay. Do you like the gold inlet manifold?

Now it looks like a 16V jobbie. Its looking good. I have a trackday Mk2 Golf Gti 1.8 16V which I'm rebuilding (like yourself, kinda)

Time for a few more pics now Corrado is on the road and doing well. Engine bay looks quite nice and tidy even if I do say so myself! Its been on a set of rollers and is giving 137bhp, which I believe is about what a 2.0L 16v 9A engine should be making. (Run in nicely then at 176K miles.)
