Fabia vRS intermittent starting.

Featured Replies

'04 Fabia vRS, 47K miles. Intermittent starting problem. It seems to be getting worse. Eventually we called out Skoda Assist on Tuesday morning who sent an AA approved garage. The mechanic fiddled around with a continuity tester near the battery while asking me to switch the ignition on and off. Eventually the car started and the guy confessed that he didn't know why.

Yesterday morning and last night the car wouldn't start. My wife didn't try it this morning and took my Golf to work. I've just tried it and it started. My thoughts at the moment are that it's the notorious relay 109.

The dealer can't look at the car until Tuesday and if it doesn't start on Tuesday morning it's going to be no end of hassle calling out Skoda Assist again.....

Anyone....?

TIA

What's relay 109 and why is it notorious?

Could be this issue?

I must say, there seems to be a fair few people with electrical type problems at the moment, myself included

No, it's not that issue. There's no problem with the level of charge in the battery and the engine spins over more than happily on the starter motor, it just doesn't fire.

Relay 109 is a main power relay which used to be notorious for failing. If you go ever to Fred's TDI Club and search "relay 109", you get....

Ahh, I see. Well hopefully someone can come up with something more useful then :)

Best of luck mate...

the notorious relay 109.
I think I remember there being a fuel pump relay which is located above the pedals and which comes unseated from its socket. Might this be the culprit?
