Lookin at RS Estate

Featured Replies

Hi Skoda Owners

Nice site and forum you have here :)

I'm looking into the possibly buying an RS Estate as a next car.

Do you have any feedback, info or general advice on the car?

Ive scanned the search pages and something is mentioned about 17" wheels, but cant find the info. Anyone shed any light?

Thanks in advance

Saul,

Hi and welcome.

The vRS estate is new to market <15 days for the UK. It shares vitually everything with it's stablemate the hatch, bar the wheel size. Therefore any info you see regarding the hatchback vRS could be taken as good for the Estate.

It is however a new car, and as such not a lot of history behind it. But given the above I think you'll really enjoy it and have very few problems.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask :D

Hi, and welcome to Briskoda! The vRS estate apparently comes with 16" alloy wheels in the UK as standard, whereas the saloon comes with 17" wheels. Apart from that, I believe the specifications are virtually identical.

Some have commented that the 16" wheels don't fill the arches very well. However, help is at hand. I hear someone is looking to sell their set of 17" RS rims in the "For Sale & Wanted" forum... :D

Before you buy a vRS Estate, have you had a serious look at the 4x4 Estate as well and compared the two? :D

Hi and Welcome!

Make sure you check out a RS in the flesh. The promotional pictures are really misleading; xeons are not standard (are they an option now?) and I'm sure the pics have 17'' alloys on.

From pics taken at the Motorshow the 16'' alloys don't look right. The 4x4 16'' alloys look much better and seem to fill the arches.

The 4x4 does however does have less boot space (don't know by how much) due to the raised floor. That said if you intend to use the estate as a workhorse the RS interior is probably not so appropriate (white/grey inserts).

Not much else to say really; great cars either of them! :thumb:

Good luck in choosing.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Thanks guys

In all honesty, this has only come up in the last few days.

Ive been offered the chance of a company car, as im a SEAT buff i was looking at the Leons, however reading Autocar this week i saw the RS estate, which is probably a better car for the job.

I havent been to a dealer yet, and appreciate its new release.

As for considering a 4x4, as i said i havent looked, but the CO emissions on the 4x4 are a level up on the RS estate (211 vs 192) hence why i was leaning towards the RS.

Thanks for your help tho, ive ordered a brochure online form Skoda.

Cheers

Saul

Saul,

As stated 16" are atandard on the RS estate :- UK dealers were informed in a buletin from Skoda UK that 17" wheels must not be fitted as a retro fit and are not suitable for that vehicle. Something to due with body flex and non fitment of braces on the rear.

So I doubt if a UK dealer would fit larger wheels, and are obviously not a manufacturing option.

Therefore I guess warrenty issues would result should should a problem result due to the fitment of 17" wheels.

Still probably a great car - just it would look better on wheels larger than 16".

16" alloys on my RS hatch.

They don't look particulary sporting with those big 205/55 tyres on.

Actually, they're quite nice until you see an RS with 17s on

17s going on as soon I get back.

From pics taken at the Motorshow the 16'' alloys don't look right. The 4x4 16'' alloys look much better and seem to fill the arches.

Yesterday, on my visit to the Amsterdam AutoRAI car expo, I saw an RS Estate in the flesh for the first time - with the 16" RS wheels on. I fully agree with SkodiRS - they just don't look right. And to imagine I almost paid double the amount to get them instead of the 16" Skoda Style alloys I chose on the insistence of my wife, who as it turns out (again) has better taste than me. The Style alloys look excellent in 16" shape.

With some money saved in the bank now and having seen the 16" RS wheels, will certainly use next year's company bonus to get the 17" RS alloys and put a set of winter tyres on the Style rims. 8)

Hi !

I demande 17" when I bought my Combi.

They put the 16" on the car with winter tyres and delivered the 17" separatly ! :D
