fabia engine warning light

Featured Replies

I own a Fabia 1.4 16v 41000 miles on the clock. Been having problems with the engine management warning light coming on.

In the morning, starting from cold, it comes on after driving about 1/4 of a mile, (carefully). It remains on for my 19 mile journey to work. If I stop/start the engine it remains on.

When I finish at 5pm, start the engine and the light goes out. It remains out during any driving I do in the evening.

The lambda probes were replaced about 12000 miles ago. Engine oil, coolant are okay. Car seems to run fine with or without the light.

I live in Inverness, so taking it to the local Skoda dealer is not an option as they are next to useless, and a bunch of ripoff crooks. (I don't like them !!!!). Haven't found a local independant garage yet.

Any ideas or suggestions. I was wondering about the condition of the battery? i.e. it may be a bit flat after sitting overnight.

Cheers

sounds like you need the fault codes stored in the ecu read to find out whats happening. any indipendent vw/audi/seat dealer will be able to help using vag-com diagnostic software and a cable.

ask around the fourums here about anyine in your area to do this.

Regards,

Mitch.

What year is your Fabia? My wife had a 51 plate 1.4 16v and periodically the engine management light would come on, and then clear itself for a while. Turned out to be caused by the emission control system blocking up with gunk. Is there any emulsion on the oil filler cap?

Can be many things, few engine ECU updates to sort various lights so that will be a dealer vist.

My daughter's 2001 Fabia Comfort 1.4 16v (AUB) with 56000 miles has a similar problem. Engine management warning light comes on - so far it has had 2 Lambda sensors, EGR (twice), plug leads and piston rings replaced.

3 different garages have checked it over including Skoda dealer, resetting diagnostics etc. Each time the light comes back on again - sometimes after 30 miles, sometimes sooner.

Skoda dealer's last suggestion is new engine!

Engine runs fine. Oil consumption low. Emissions well within spec (no prob with MOT).

Anyone got fresh thought on the light problem?

Talked a lot to my garage about my Fabia.

Light comes on quite regularly, mainly when I'm stuck in solid traffic like this morning (over an 1 hour to cover 7 miles).

Once I've had a chance to run it "normal" for a few days, the light goes back out. Had it on diagnostics tons of times, basically, if it wasn't on a computer, it wouldn't even be an issue, just a hiccup in the fuel mixture.

Just got an MOT recently, my emmissions were spot on so the mechanic reckons it is deffo not the sensors, just a niggle with the car.

Car runs great, never shown any problems with mixture and the cat isn't suffering so I've just accepted it as a "stuck in traffic for feckin' ages" indicator.

It had been off for a long time before today and no doubt, will go off again in a few days. :P
