Price madness?

Featured Replies

Posted earlier on last week - thanks for all the replies so far.

Have now got a formal quote and would like to know what people think:

1.8Slxi 1999 Petrol Estate

- cam belt and water pump (

We charge £95 plus VAT per hour (well the dealer I currently work at does, not me personally, im much cheaper ;) )

Cambelt sounds about right, rear discs and pads and a handbrake cable proably not far off, doubt rear calipers will be needed, if the brakes are sticking the pads will be stuck in the carriers. And not a bad prive for a complete CV joint (is it knackered though?).

Thanks for the reassurance on the prices! I'm getting a price on the callipers just in case, but hope they won't be needed.

CV joint sounded dodge last year and they "packed it with grease" for me. Which seemed to do the job. It's slowly deteriorated and is now grinding away like a b*ugger if I take tight left handers.

Would the CV joint affect the differential? It seems to slip a bit more than it used to now, and the tyres aren't that old...

I am quite car-dense

We charge

Hi there I'm new to this site nad just flicking though reading peoples coments etc.

I just had brake discs and pads all round, I ordered them myself from an VW Dealership in Barnsley, they cost me £236.00 including VAT and postage. These were official Audi/VW/Skoda/Seat parts for my VRS.

If you have the knowledge you can either fit them yourself of get a local garage to fit them, I opted for the garage as it was 5 days before xmas and too cold/wet etc to mess about outside a week before xmas. He charged £66.00 inc VAT which was pretty good, its a simple job so most local garages can do it for a fraction of the price of a dealership.

Also try VW Parts - Audi Parts and see if you can get the prices for your other stuff, you might be suprised on how much you can save!!!

GSF all round brembo disks and Pagid pads = £147 inc VAT plus fitting from a local indy whole job done for a touch under £250
