Rear number plate removal

Featured Replies

Right, well having recieved a lovely set of number plate surounds thanks to Quinten, I set about fitting them.

Front surround went on fine and looks great.

However, on the rear one of the screws seems to have seized solid. I ended up stripping the head trying to remove it. Now I can always use a hacksaw blade to create a big flat head on it, but I don't think it will help. So does anyone have any suggestions as regards a removal method.

Thanks Simon.

Can you get some molegrips on it?

It will probably strip the insert out. If this is the case seal the hole up and use tape to stick the new plate on.

Mine did this. So I drilled them out and used self tappers instead

I considered driling it, but was hoping to save the insert. Looks like get rid of them (either method) and put the plate surround on with tape instead.

Thanks for the help.

Remember if you use self tappers into the body work you invalidate your anti perforation warranty if I remember correctly.

I had the same problem two days ago.

Both screws heads snapped off, screws rusted solid into metal lugs.

I ground the remaing srcrews down and then re-drilled new holes in the boot and used sticky pads and new self tappers

Yeah, I figured that and as I already have some bubbling on the tailgate I will be going with the option of double sided tape.

Now you tell me.

I used a decent amount of double sided to stick my surround on. And it's WELL stuck on.
