Torturing Marwood!

Featured Replies

Many of you will know that i wold really like to add the Jumbo/Combi/elec pack to my newly ordered vRS. Sadly cost is an issue at this time and the decision is being made for me.

However, it will be my birthday soon and some time ago my wife offered me a personal numberplate for my car. I know that there can be some controversy with the kind of motorists who have private plates but for the same cost as the above optional extra this reg is available right now:

SK07 DAW

Given my surname is Daw, the car will be a new 07, and of course it's a Skoda surely someone is torturing Marwood!

Quirky but good.

SK07 DAW - Good and discreet. I had a look on newreg.com the other day and there are quite a few @@07 VRS available and other @@0@ VRS as well; perhaps have a trawl through perhaps and see what you fancy.

Thanks gents, the only drawback, apart from the cost is if I ever changed the car for a different make. To this effect have seen a similar numberpate on the same site for 07 but having my initials instead of the SK. This might be a better long term bet, but is perhaps less discreet in terms of my full name. I have mates who would have people with private regs undergo interrogation followed by a painful death. However.....I can just blame my wife.

Interestingly, the dealership said they would look out for a plate if one just happened to come in. A previous customer dropped lucky when his initials turned up on a stock supplied plate. Ironically for me, they were the same as my surname. Could have had a bargin there!

Marwood, what controversy and who cares anyway?

Oh don't get me wrong Lance, I like them. Well within reason of course, some do give the impression the driver is telling other road users too much about his or her's supposed effectiveness in bed. :)

It's just that within the realms of my peer group, there are mates who have issues with them and who I know will think I'm being a pretentious a***hole for spending money on that kind of thing. (Sorry :) My wife's money.)

And yes it shouldn't bother me what others think. I have already had the 'raised eyebrows' from the BMW fraternity within my friends with regard to my choice of new car. However, this has not put me off and it is only a small minority of unknowledgeable car owners who have overtly shown this reaction.

The same goes for the anti private reg brigade: it is only a small minority people who perhaps wish they had one too.

Personally I wouldn't have a private plate as I don't really understand the point of them........however I pass no judgement on those who have them and if that's their thing then why should it bother me.

Bit like owning a Skoda really, some like em some don't, however I sought no ones approval when I got mine as I got it for me and no one else.

Live & let live I say.

Lance

That may be so but SK07 DAW is £542 from them and £399 from DVLA

How about a reg plate with your and swmbo's initials, that's what we have on our cars. See sig. below.

Also buy direct from DVLA as they are the cheapest.

Thanks for the information guys...

The VRS option is interesting but SKO7 DAW is a bit more personal to me. The other option, for the same price as SKO7 DAW is **O7 DAW but with my initials as the first two letters. This is £448.95 'all in' from:

Number Plates, Private Registrations. LOW PRICES. Personalised Plates

The car reg would be a birthday present from my lovely wife. This is the same cost as the jumbo etc, but she is keener on getting me the reg as I will be able to take it with me when I sell the car. She sees it as having more sentimental value as it will be a 40th present. Hence 'I' wont be spending any money if I get the plate.

Regarding the jumbo etc I think I have managed to convince myself I can go without it (just LOL). I rang the dealer today. She made me feel better about it, which was nice. Also, if I wanted to add it to my car without waiting longer (but only a couple of weeks to be fair) I should have really requested it last week. My car will be built week 9 (next week in the factory....wish I could go and watch that, I will be off work then too). This will mean my car will arrive around the last week of March (crossing fingers!).

Ya pays yer money yer takes yer choice!

Many thanks,

M

Thanks mdk1 too.

Have checked the DVLA site an it is cheaper by 50 quid!

M

Depending on what your initials are most of them are £399 from DVLA. Best to get them from there as there are no middle men.

And try to transfer them to your next car = nightmare...

  • 6 months later...

I saw SK06 DAW today, there aren't more Skuds in the Daw clan on the Wirral are there?

Dave.

Yeah, it was a race blue one. Saw it near 2 Mills on the Wirral, but I was on me bicycle :)

Dave.

number plate transfer = easy !!

Just tell the garage to do it when you're trading in your old car for the new one :-)
