Glow plug, flashing after wire repair

Featured Replies

Well tonight i thought i would do some more investigations and found this.

Where the oil filter is there is a big connecter just in front, there was 3 frayed wires, 2 only outer skin done so taped up, 3rd was well mashed ( it goes into the block where there is a number 2 stamped on it) bared the wires and resoldered together well.....then taped up....

NOW when i started the car to check the glow plug symbol whent of as usuall but after idling for 10-15 seconds it started flashing, checked the brake lights all ok and checked side lights all ok.

So is it the brake pedal switch or an actual glow plug, how can i check glow plugs to see if ok, read in a thread that its an open circuit, see here

The battery is only 2 years old.

Will check the glow plugs later today. One of the glow plugs is open circuit. Will fit a new one tomorrow.

Will take a look at the brake switch as well.

Would a poor battery show up this way?

mind you i have noticed it isnt running smooth......might fit all new ones for the hell of it. How do i fit them, never done glow plugs before but am quite handy......

PS, any notes on what the broken wire is for ??? could my glow plugs be naff for a while but not told me due to broken wire.....

thanks all.

Sorry if i take up most of the forum, hahahahahaha :D

The open circuit glow plug might cause that light i guess, but what i can say is that once you have started the car the glows play no roll at all, so the rough running isn't down to them.

The glow plugs do play a role, they come back on after start up to heat the combustion chamber, this helps with cold running emissions and diesel knock.

You ideally need an amp clamp to check glow plugs.
