Octavia RS spark plugs

Featured Replies

Anyone got any advice on changing spark plugs in an Octavia RS Mk1? I've heard some say it is a pain in the posterior. Any special tools/ tips?

If you can handle a plug spanner you should be ok...... remove plastic cover from top of engine then you wil see a smallish black plastic part with vac; pipes going into it remove this (10mm nuts and also allen bolts)...... remove the securing pins off of the wiring loom going to the individual plugs as this will "just" allow enough free play to remove the coil pack/leads.....ease no1 up first with the aid of two large flat screwdrivers taking care then do the others...you can now change the plugs

HTH i used iridium plugs in mine and have noticed a slight improvement in throttle response:cool:

I have ordered OEM plugs from the local dealer, and I guess I'll be adding a plug spanner to my tool kit at the weekend.

Thanks Phil. I will remember this for the next 40k service... I should have posted before I ordered.

How often should the plugs be changed as a slight deviation from topic.

Just that its something ive never changed and i wouldnt really believe the last service carried out on it

How often should they be changed?

Every 40K IIRC

@ every 40k miles according to local dealer. I also need to change the brake fluid too come to think of it.

Thought it was 60k........ But then i changed mine @ every service on variable.... Maybe not now i have Iridium plugs, but they are cheaper than the OE ones:confused: Decisions decisions

Phil

The Service Schedule specifies that the spark plugs be replaced every 60,000 km (40,000 miles).

8000km to go for me then, cheers :)
