Featured Replies

im new to this forum. have found the search function very useful.

the site has helped with a few of those niggling problems.

im a cab driver using a 55 plate skoda superb 130bhp 1.9td auto, 70,000ish miles a year.

as i have found so far the skoda service centres are at best indifferent but skoda uk cant do enough for you.

parts replaced so far:

both front wheelbearings 20.000miles

both front cv boots 26,000miles

dsg gearbox 46,000miles

gear selector lever 60,000miles

hazard switch 63,000miles

indicator stalk 63,000miles

its going in for both front drive shafts on the 25th

as far as cars go (apart from the gearbox) i find it a great motor if a little heavy on service items :

front pads 12000miles

rear pads 8000miles:confused:

front tyres 12000miles

fuel economy isnt great. round town is only marginally better than my 1.8 auto petrol powered passat.

must learn not to go on so much:)

if us taxi drivers cant break it...its not breakable

Hi, John Cook

Taxied myself for 18 years (nights mostly, private-hire). Renault 18TDs (2), Jetta TD (written off), Cavalier 1.7TD (180k - pretty damn good motor).

Now unemployed, finally had enough of the swines (aka the general public) !!!!

Still don't regret it.

Perhaps 'downsize' a leetle - i.e. Octavia. General reports indicate approx 50 MPG, costs should be commensurably less. Many, many PH cars around our way are Octavias, would seem to be the best compromise for size and economy - the Superb seems a little like overkill.

Have you tried Millers Diesel Power Plus (soon to be superceded by Sport 4) ?

Best of luck with the job and 'nils illigitum carborundum'.
