Getting a VRS - Metalic paint or Jumbo ?

Featured Replies

I'm hopefully switching to a VRS Petrol as a company car in August.

The only thing is that it is just on my limit for the lease, and metalic paint and the jumbo will take it out of reach...

What do people think, shall I stick with a no cost option red paint and Jumbo, or go for black or more likely race blue and forgo the jumbo.

It is only the armrest that I am interested in from the jumbo, so maybe I can get a non jumbo one as an add on later? I know the jumbo arm rest is about

I don't think red is offensive at all.

I thought the jumbo could not be speced on its own on the vRS but had to be part of the elec windows/dual climate pack which without discount is a £450 option.

I faced a similar cash based dilema as yourself. Went for 18s, maxi dot and met black paint instead of the jumbo. If you are considering 18s it could be argued that it would be better to drop these instead of the jumbo as the have little noticable aaffect upon the gap between tyre and wheel arch. But as with it all it's personal choice. Many peeps on here see the jumbo et al as quiite important it does finish the interior of a bit better, although the box itself holds very little. Yes it is desirable, but IMO no at the expense of lovely black or blue paint.

At the end of the day I suppose it is the car that is important and whichever way you go you will really enjoy your vRS.

The car will look great in either black or race blue, I think you would regret not going for one of them every time you another octy with metallic paint. Jumbo box is nice but the paint will be more significant.

Would be the Jumbo pack for me I think.

Jumbo box comes with electric rear windows and more importantly dual zone climate control, the jumbo box is also cooled/heated and comes with an MP3 socket too. The lid of the box slides forward to double as a nice armrest too, and there is the addition of rear passenger air vents in the back.

I have a jumbo box in my Elegance and I had an Ambiente courtesey car a while back and it drove me nuts not having the JB armrest there. TBH that part of the car looks very cheap without it.

Overall the JB adds a very nice touch to the car, personally I would opt for that.

I chose red. It is the best colour and look at other cars on the road. They are all silver, blue or black. Be different and have an arm rest!

Steve

Definately the Jumbo box everytime...the jumbo box for the MP3 connection and the armrest! Which makes a huge difference on long distance drives.

Also the dual climate control is soo much better compared to the manual one.

As for the rear eleccy windows....doesn't matter (who really sits at the back when they drive!!)

Thanks for the answers.

Sorry if I got my wordings wrong, but yes I know the armrest thing is part of the £450 package. it's just that the only thing I'd use is the armrest.

Rear electric windows are of no importance, and the dual AC is a gimick for me. * Edit. Is the dual A/C just independant controls for left and right side, or does it add extra features? I though it was just the left / right and this is what is irrelavent to me.

However, I do a lot of motorway miles as I cover half the country with work so maybe the armrest will be more important than paint. All my previous cars have them and I do like the jumbos comfort.

I also agree that a centre armrest finishes a cars interior and adds a bit of class - dare I say it.

Am I reading the literature correctly regarding the paint - ie it is only red or yellow that are no cost options?

Go for the Jumbo Pack, car in Yellow :thumbup: and yes, only Red or Yellow is your choice of solid colours.

Don't think Yellow will go down well at work some how.

Most of the other guys have gone for Civics in top of the range EX form. £18k car with all the goodies and the cracking 2.2D engine..... but they look pig ugly to me and the dash is just plain weird. So a bright yellow Vrs stood in the car park will be frowned upon... haha

And I don't want to look like too much of a middle aged c.hav wanna be

edit.. why is c .h. av starred out.... Surely it isn't too harsh a word?

Thinking the red and Jumbo now.

The dual zone looks nicer in the dash IMHO.

:iagree:

Odd, my vRS will be a COmpany Car and i had the choice of all colours as No-Cost Options...

So i went for Black and also the Jumbo Box option, because i wanted an armrest, and also because the missus is either hot or cold, never inbetween, so the Dual Zone Air Con would be useful to stop her fecking up my side of the car's temperature! :D

Red....offensive...how very dare you!

Maybe worth speaking to your fleet manager nicely, as, as others have alluded to, metallic is often thrown in FOC for company cars in order to close the deal.

Jumbo box and Red  ..........and don't gorget that even if the metallic is a no cost option it is still included in the P11D value so Mr Gordon Brown :finger: can get more of your 'hard earned :thumbdwn:

I'm not too sure how our company is handling the lease yet.

Normally all the reps cars go through one leasing company so we pay what ever they tell us. However for my car only the boss has asked me to get the OTR price and a fleet managers card, so maybe he is going to negotiate direct.

I'll wait till nearer the end of next month and find out who I need to work on to get the lease costs down ;)

So if you see another red Vrs in the midlands from mid August, it might be me :)

My last 2 company lease cars had metallic thrown in FOC, much easier for them to shift the car when it comes to selling them on, lean on them for free metallic.

The P11D of metallic won't make much difference to your monthly tax bill, you're gonna get screwed anyway so a few quid isn't going to hurt.

I get my new Octy VRS diesel on Monday, Race blue metallic with 18's, Jumbo box, cruise, Maxidot and curtain airbags. Cannot wait !!!

Is that list OTR or OTR that you can get it for?

If OTR that you can buy if for, then http://www.drivethedeal.com would be a good place to get a quote from as that will be much less than the list and still supplied by a main dealer.

Sadly I have no say in where the car is purchased. As far as I know it has to come from a dealer as the lease company buy it.

Just had my first drive of a vrs today. Realy nice. It is like my TD when pootling along. Bags of torque and no need to be changing gear all the time.

Had a couple of lads try it on coming off a roundabout onto a dual carriageway. They were in a Fiesta turbo that whistled and banged like a rally car  Let them get away, then at the next roundabout I gave it some and they couldn't keep up.

The scarey thing is, there is no real sensation of the speed or acceleration in the Vrs. I looked in the mirror and they were some way back - looked at the speedo and I was doing 110mph... oops.

Anyway, really impressed with the car and will be submitting my request to the boss in a couple of weeks.

Vrs Petrol with Jumbo and black paint.

Shall see what I get

RED with Jumbo - that's what I've got (well getting; delivery due in a couple of weeks).

Bit of a thread dig up, but after speaking to the boss today it seems I can afford the black and jumbo.

Will know for deffinate in a couple of weeks, but looking good so far :)

Definite improvement in your options.

Last post for me in this thread for a while hopefully.

Just been told it is on order today.

VRS Petrol, with Black Pearl paint and Jumbo.

Exactly what I asked for.

Will be a pic up when I get it later in the year, but until then moi is smiling :)

Metallic paint isn't free at the moment (well 8 weeks ago anyway) on the vRS for companies. It is on some other models sometimes though for company purchases.

Racking brain now - can you get the lease through Skoda rather than your normal company lease company as I vaguely remember them offering something for free.....
