Long Life Synthetic oil

Featured Replies

I've been a fan of Millers Oils for some time and have found out they have a new 'Long Life' synthetic 0w30 oil suitable for both petrol and diesel cars and meeting the criteria of VW503.00, 506.00 & 506.01. There is a 5w30 oil 'available 2007' as well.

Details here; Millers Oils - A World Leader In Lubrication Technology

I would imagine these could be used in an Octavia II. Is this correct?

Engine oil specs for the Octavia II are:

Vehicles with fixed service intervals (QG0, QG2)

Petrol engines

VW 501 01

VW 502 00

VW 504 00

Diesel engines

VW 507 01 (only for engines without diesel particle filter)

VW 505 00 (only for engines with diesel particle filter)

Models with flexible service intervals (QG1)

Petrol engines

VW 503 00

VW 504 00

Diesel engines

VW 506 01 (only for engines without diesel particle filter)

VW 507 00

Thnx DGW - I'm pretty sure I haven't got a diesel particle filter, but to help myself and others who may read this thread when selecting oil, is there an easy way to tell?

Only the vRS (TDI PD 170bhp) has a particulate filter at present; the 105bhp and 140bhp TDIs do not (yet).

I put a feeler out for a group buy in the group buys section on this stuff.

Speaking to millers the VW506.1 (0w-30) is being phased out and replaced with the VW507(5w-30) oil.

The VW507 oil is backward compatible and meets or exceeds the preceding standard VW506.1.

Both are available and come in 1 or 5 litre containers. The pricing I was offered is on the feeler thread if anybody wants it for more info.

EDIT:

Linky to that thread:

Oh and on the Octy the 2.0 PD170 has a DPF and there is also a DPF on the 2.0 TDi superb (PD140 iirc)

A silly thing, but i didnt think you could post liquids by mail.

If you notice on the thread it does mention that it would be at a meet or collection as I didn't fancy paying the courier charges on between 5 and 20L of oil.

I'd be buying it from a local motor factor which is offering a discount if I buy crates of 4*5L rather than bottles of 1*5L

Opps! my error.

Sorry folks - Im a bit confused with this.

The leaflet that came with my 2006 vRS petrol says I should only use oil spec VW 506.01 with the variable servicing, but DGW's post says thats for dizezals..... ....who is right??

Only the PD 170 engined vRS TDI has a Particulate filter (DPF) in the Octavia range at present.

IIRC the new 2008 MY PD140's do too now :(

Not according to the current brochure (just checked); only the vRS TDI 170 PD has a DPF; although the DPF is being fitted IIRC to the PD 140 engine in other VAG group cars, e.g. Golf GT.

Was going to say, my 07 Scout comes with it. Had a little explanatory card on one of the Key Fobs when I got it. In addition the DPF light temporarily lights up on the start up check with all the other warning lights (look in the manual to see the icon you should be looking for). Not been a problem so far - but then again I do live in the country so most journeys are a 30 minute minimum at decent speeds. My commute is 11 miles on nice empty 60mph A-roads, so only takes around 15 mins :)

From my experiences on the VW side of VAG 506.01 is definitely a diesel oil, but that doesn't mean it isn't suitable for a petrol motor too. Check with a knowledgable Skoda/VW expert or oil specialist site eg Castrol (I'd hazard a guess that VW 504.00 would be the current recommendation).

Except for VW R5 TDI motors without DPFs, 506.01 has been superceded by 507.00 (it is better suited to DPFs).

The petrol VRS needs VW504.00, which is usually also certified to VW507.00

I wouldn't use VW506.1 in a petrol as it is unsuited to dervs with a DPF so probably wouldn't help petrol sensors or cat either.
