Possible faulty SRS airbag control module (HELP NEEDED)

Featured Replies

Hi people,

I'm very new to skoda ownership as I've had my vRS for just over a week now, but already I've had an airbag light come on and stay on.

IIRC it was just after a slammed the glove box shut, that it came on. Now I think I've read some where that there are possibly airbag connections under or around the glove box area.

What I am asking is, could the slamming of the glove box knocked out a wire and caused the light to come on and stay on?

Also I popped into my local Skoda garage yesterday where they plugged in the VAG COM and the code came up to say that the SRS contol module is defective and the error code could not be cleared.

I've booked the car in to be looked at but that's not until the 12th March as I can't make any sooner. They said before they go ahead and order the module, they would look around the car and check wiring etc etc. but is there anything I could look at before it goes in?

If anyone can help me I would appreciate this very much as a new module is

I wouldn't fit new anything until you have had the car looked at.

As far as I am concerned an air bag should be able to deal with a glove box being slammed and wires should not be able to be dislodged as the system has to fire correctly in a full on frontal accident.

Where did you buy the car from, as if it was from a skoda dealer you should have a warrenty and I would say that the air bag should definitely be covered.

If it isn't skospares might have a second hand unit that could be fitted for significantly less that the price of a new one

Hi Cheeze,

Thanks for the quick response and advice.

The car was bought privately and is a 51 plate, so well out of warranty. :(

Surely fitting some speakers would not do any harm if I'm carefull? ;) I'm desperate for better sounds, but now I may think harder about fitting them before I get it checked out. Not sure if I can resist though. :D

Thanks again.

If anyone else has had a similar issue I'd like to hear about it?

Steve

Get a second opinion on the diagnostic suggesting a faulty module.. Vagcom is temperamental with some airbag systems and doesn't read them reliably. Try and get another diagnostic opinion with different equipment first. Airbag light will often stay on due to a historic fault, even if it's not still present depending on how critical it considers that fault to be. Conversely you may find if it's a historic fault, the light may clear after a period of time and/or number of ignition cycles with the fault not present any more.

Thanks rich,

I'll try and get a second opinion ASAP as I really dont want to be paying out for a new module right now.

Thanks again

Steve
