Puddle Lamps

Featured Replies

Been told that the puddle lamp on my car doesn't work as the wrong type of mirror is fitted that doesn't include the puddle lamp and that a new part would need to be ordered.

Does anyone know what parts can be retained from the old mirror, eg the cover and the glass?

Can the motors be retained, how much a complete one of these things usually costs and where can you buy them from outside of the dealer network.

Thanks

they will not be replacing the whole mirror unit, just the indicator section as it can be disconnected from it and changed. The puddle lamp version is £32 from the dealer and the only part that is easy to keep is the puddle lamp bulb. there was a thread on this a few weeks ago, you will gt more answers from there.

I was told the wiring is different on the puddle and non-puddle versions

But seeing as yours has probably been replaced with the wrng one i'd bet the wiring would be there, especially if you have one the other side. You wont have half a wiring loom. The car will either be wired or not for puddle lamps.

Ok I'm really confused is the wiring part of the car or part of the mirror, surely therw is a connector somewhere and wiring in both.

I guess I am indeed muchos confused, but if you can get just the LED could somebody locate me a part number who has access to ekta or similar.

Thanks :)

The wiring from the lamp feeds through the mirror and into the car. You should find I would think that they neet in the same plug behind the door trim.

Ahh ok, so there is a connector in the car and either of the connectors from the mirror will fit on :)

So now I need to work out where the wire in the mirror comes from and if it is just from the LED/Puddle lamp bit (Indicator section) or if I have to purchase the whole mirror and a suitable part number.

Can't see myself using this dealer again.

Thats what I was trying to say earlier. If you have an Elegance, which you do then you have Puddle Lights and hence the correct wiring for them. The issue seems to be a wrong mirror has been fitted at some stage.

I've got that bit Stu that ther eis the wrong mirror, I am just wondering can i buy just the indicator bit or the whole mirror (from what Roo said).

If it's the whole mirror i will keep an eye out at the breakers

I would have thought you can just buy the indicator/puddle light section.

Thanks Ross,

Roo, is there any chance you could look up the part number you bought as I think the part has been identified thanks to Ross and Stu, but want to confirm it is the part we think before buying.

ther are 2 different types. it would be better to go to the dealers as theyt can get the part number you need through your chassis number.

Roo, dealers claim "whole mirror guv" hence the asking if you had either part no. I will try another dealer.

Don't suppose you know how many wires are inside of yours I think I counted 6 + 2 for the heater and am wondering if this is enough for the puddle lamps.

Hmm more investigation at my end is afoot.

my dealer ordered it no problem. As there are 2 different versions, I would not give you a part number as it could be the wrong one (the wire connection plugs are different). If the dealers order the wrong part due to the system it's not your fault so can get it changed, if I give you the wrong part number you are lumbered with a part you cannot use as it is specially ordered.

It's 3 wires, 1 for the indicators, 1 for the puddle lamp and 1 common earth wire.
