Starting Problem on 2002 L&K 1.8 T (EDITED)

Featured Replies

I've been having these Starting Problem for a while now on my 2002 Skoda L&K 1.8 Turbo.

This car only have 6,500 Kms

Scenario: The engine will start for about 1-2 secsonds, then it will just die. This only happend the firts start in the morning.

On the second try if I wait for the lights on the dash to go off , then no problems, it starts just fine.

I have been doing this since more than 3 month......Now my problem is that eaven that I wait for the lights to go off the engine stall and die.

so on the 3er try its start..............Again, This only happend the firts start in the morning EVERY DAY.

At the Skoda VAG service NOTHING came up with the computer and there were no error readings.

I live in Panama Central America. On the Skoda Dealer they say that many of the 1.8T has the same problem and they dont know how to fix it.

Inclusive the Skoda Manager has a 1.8T and he has the same problem.

The Manager toll me that he has the MAP sensor disconeted and the problem goes away but he only drive the car in the city.

Do any body has a clue???? Does any body has experience similar problems?????

THX,

Isaac

Couple of questions if I may?

Is your car completely standard?

Have you tried your spare key?

Jon

Another question

On first turn

Do you insert key turn to first position and wait for lights to go off

or do you insert, turn and start?

May be bad fuel, change the provider.

I know someone who had a similar problem with an Audi A4, and it turned out that the immobaliser was faulty - it incorrectly interupted the engine starting, and it tended to be on cold starting in the mornings.

Well, me and like another 10 Skodas 1.8T cars in my Country (Panama Republic of Panama) has the same problem.

At the Skoda dealer is the same, they conect the VAG computer and nothing come up.

My car has only 6,000 KMS and I also think my car is consuming/burning more fuel.

The Manager at the VAG dealer also has a 1.8T with the same problem and he toll me that he KEEP the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF)disconected and the problem goes away and the engine start at the first try in the morning every day.

So, today in the morning, before I start the engine, I disconect the plug from the MAF sensor.

Then I start the engine and guess what? The engine start inmediately and the there was not RPM's ocsilation.

The only thing that comes to my mind is that when the main computer does not find the signal from the MAF sensor it set some factory preset values to start the engine.

Also during the period I keep the MAF disconected there was NO Check engine light on.

Another thing is that during the 90kms drive today the neddle on the fuel gauge barely move........So the car is not consuming much fuel as I was tell you before.

So what this mean???? That my MAF sensor is bad???

What you think?

THX,

Isaac

Don't know if anyone else has noticed this but if you have the flip type key and use the key in the ignition not fully locked open and try and start the car the immobiliser light will flash and car does not start. So there is obviously some coonection between the key and the fob which completes some kind of circuit. Perhaps the fault lies there.
