At 17 you probably need to look mainly at insurance costs as this could be dearer than the car!! Also running costs might be important to you. A good compromise looks to be the 1.4 diesel PD 80 which is group 3, does 0-60 2 secs faster than the 1.2 petrol (group 2) and average mpg of 60 against 47 for the petrol. See Home - What Car?
