Windcreen scratches

Featured Replies

I have a couple fine scratches on my windscreen caused by an ice scraper:eek: .

One of then is right in front of the driver. Can these scratches be polished out ?

If so how ?

Jules

Yes! I've polished the windscreen and small scratches disappeared!

Apply a bit paint scratch cleaner on a cotton or piece of cloth and rub!

Irfant:

Would that be something like T-Cut ? Or something more abrasive ?

Jules

Interesting - I was wondering if irfant meant something less abrasive :rubchin:

There's a vertical scratch on my windscreen which I wouldn't mind clearing. It's insignificant, but each time I see it, it makes me think it's a spider's thread and that it might have its maker dangling around somewhere

autoglym glass polish :)

Deep scratches (ie ones that you can feel with your finger nail) are pretty much impossible to remove from glass.

You'd be better off claiming off your insurance (£50 - £75) to get a new windscreen.

I've tried removing a scratch using a Porter Cable and glass polish, and even after quite some time working at it, it did nothing. I believe my scratch was also caused by an ice scraper too :( (however mine's on the rear screen, and isn't very big, so I've not lost any sleep over it.

hmmm

Time to ring Autoglas i think!:(

Had a nasty scratch on my Felicia windscreen a few years back, deep enough to feel, followed the arc of the wiper right across my field of vision. Bought a glass polishing kit from Frost Automotive which did the trick. A bit nerve-wracking to use at first; you need to put a lot of pressure on the drill and the splatter makes a LOT of mess but, with a bit of perseverance, it works.

....and the moral of the story is....?

DONT USE AN ICE SCRAPER.

Seriously, I've used warm water (not hot) for years and its very very effective.

Yep, but when you have been parked up in the middle of nowhere all day and then your car is covered in ice you don't have much choice do you :(
