what is the difference between euro3 and euro4?

Featured Replies

i have a fabia 1.9tdi pd elegance hatchback. 2001/51 plate. how do i know if its a euro3 or euro4. also what does it all mean? thanks.

Euro 3 and Euro 4 are different requirements for levels of emissions. 3 was recently surpassed by 4, which requires lower co2, particulates, nox and sox (oxides of nitrogen and sulphur). Not completely sure, but IIRC, the 1.9pd only meets Euro 4 in the 105 bhp variant, and the 2l pd's are all euro 4.

better emissions tends to mean hotter engines, less power per cc, and bigger catalysts, and on the 170 pd, a diesel particulate filter, which catches, and periodically burns off soot. Thats why newer cars haev bigger intercoolers and radiators.

Lecture over........sorry.......damn engineers!

AFAIK , 2006 model year Fabia VRS was EURO 4 compliant , i.e. 130 bhp engine , its just that it didn't have a DPF equipped catalyst fitted

Yours is Euro III my friend. :) The only difference to the owner would be a difference in company car tax rates or whether or not the car stutters

Euro 3 don't stutter, Euro 4 do?
